Mouth To Mouth Movie Review; Starring Ellen Page

Sorry Ellen, I love you, I do. But Mouth to Mouth seriously sucked. I have been reading mixed reviews on this flick for the most part, and frankly I found the movie to just confuse, and suck the life out of me. Granted, Ellen does a great job at portraying her character Sherry; for the most part the whole plot was just boring, and confusing.

We start off with Ellen Page playing a young runaway named Sherry. While in the streets of Europe she runs into a group of homeless folks who have some sort of stupid message. She is passed a flier, and decides to join this group of homeless nomads. They have a group called SPARK, which represents, Street People Armed with Radical Knowledge.

Basically what we have is a trashed old van which carries a group of hopeless druggies, to try and reform them. At least that what I could gather, the whole message was just senseless.

From the get go, I had a sense that something horrible was going to happen to young Sherry, armed with nothing more than a backpack, and a will to be free.

Sherry of course meets up with this group of homeless people in the back of some sort of warehouse where they are all piled into this SPARK labeled van sleeping.

The ring leader of this group is an older scruffy looking chap named Harry. He seems to have some sort of message to tell, and he seems to be charismatic enough as to where people are willing to believe in him enough to follow where he leads, while cutting off all ties to their lives back home.

The plot is confusing, and I continued to watch hoping to make some sort of sense of things, but the further and further the movie went on the more ridiculous, and poorly sketched out it became.

At any rate, you get an immediate sense that Harry is preying on young vulnerable people who don't really have anything better to do with their lives. Harry seems cleaner, and seems to have this iron fist authority about him.

While on a road trip to some event, the youngest member ends up dying while dumpster diving for food. When Harry states he wants to leave the boy behind Mad Ax, one of the Spark members is not hearing it. Before making it to this big Woodstock type event Mad Ax displays a very gut wrenching sad scene where he is holding the boys dead body. Frankly I think this was the most interesting scene in the entire movie, seeing that it seemed so very real, and I was able to get an immediate sense of sadness. Well done.

Fast forward to the big event. They leave the body of the boy in the van, and light it on fire. Sherry is slipped some acid, and nearly loses her virginity to one of the Spark members she had a slight crush on.

Meanwhile at the same event, roaming around is Sherry's mother. Sherry made the mistake of calling her mom to tell her where she was going. Sherry's mom naturally seeks her out, and oddly enough manages to find her within the crowd.

Just when you think the movie was to end, it continues on into a new odd realm of confusion.

Sherry and her mother get into a fight after her mother attempted to take her home. Sherry should have just been a good little runaway and been grateful that mom came to rescue her from this group.

Instead she takes off on her own, and manages to find her way back to the group. I don't know how things unfolded, but when she shows up to a large vineyard, her mom is already there.

Frankly I was baffled by this whole unexpected, unlikely event, and even more so when her mother announces she too will be joining Spark.

At this point the drama begins to unfold, and we really get a taste of how evil Harry is. His means of punishment are cruel and unusual, and for the most part it seems like what he did was board up a bunch of homeless, low self esteem folks and brought them to his vineyard for free slave labor.

Punishments include being put in a well for 36 hours, or longer. Rules are constantly added, and the reign of terror becomes unbearable for Sherry, whom loses her virginity in a harsh circumstance to the emperor of evil.

Without ruining the tiresome confusing ending, I will just say that the flick was very sleepy, with a lack of a compelling plot, and an unbelievable (not GOOD unbelievable), fake ending.

If you are going to see Mouth to Mouth, see it if you are a huge fan of Ellen Page, otherwise just spare yourself the boredom.

Movie Review: Gravedancers

The beginning of Gravedancers reminded me of a low-key horror film that they would air on lifetime. I have seen some pretty good ghost movies on lifetime, and Gravedancers would fit an 8 o’clock time slot with many ratings. But as a film added into the 8 films to die for’ set just didn’t fit the bill, at least not for me.

I have been obsessing over getting my hands on all 8 films, but so far have only seen 3, and have been disappointed by all 3 of them so far. I’m not in any rush to view the rest of them to be honest.

THE MOVIE:

Gravedancers follows a group of friends who have reunited for their friend’s funeral. They have a small get together and get blitzed and decide it would be a good idea to visit the graveyard in which their friend has been buried.

While there they then decide it’s a good idea to dance on the graves of the dead. This is where you get the name of the movie, ‘Gravedancers.’

But the dance was also followed by a chant.
You see one of the guys found a piece of paper with some words scrawled on it that someone left behind at his friend’s tombstone. Stupidly he reads the paper and unleashes some curse unknowingly.

This whole scene reminded me of my favorite 80’s horror film Midnight Hour. Only we never get to see the dead rise, they sort of just are.

But the dead is angry! They come back for vengeance in full force. The ghosts now haunt all of them, at first the haunts started off small for some of the characters, opening and closing of doors, as time goes on though the haunts get more drastic.

The ghosts are now making themselves known and there is no denying that there are some pretty scary scenes.

The group is running out of time, and they seek the help of a paranormal expert who will supposedly help them escape from their own death.

The ending is where things gets super cheesy, it involves an enormous floating hand and body parts.

MY THOUGHTS:

Lame! I’m sorry; I have seen better horror movies on lifetime and discovery.

The make-up and special effects were done nicely, but everything else just sucked.

The actors are what made the movie horrible. It could have been a really scary movie if it were not for them.

Now if I were to wake up from my sleep to discover there is a stiff lying next to me, I sure as hell am going to flip out, run out of my home and never ever look back. Possibly even suffer from shock afterwards.
Yes the actor looked scared, but not scared enough. After her husband came back into the room it was almost as if nothing had ever happened. ‘I’m over it. Sigh, that was scary!’

When they should have been all out scared for their lives they sort of didn’t really care. It seemed as if death just was not scary enough for them, and it really made the movie lack because of this.

There was also another scene in which cheating came up. Yet the wife whom was sort of cheated on (her husband kissed another woman) barely even seemed to care. She confronted the hussy but in a ‘whatever’ type of way.
You would think fists would fly, and hair would be pulled to add to the slow paced action. Nope, it was almost as if she forgave her or feared confronting her. It was just weird, and offbeat.

The ghosts made up for poor acting but not well enough.
They went from simple haunts to all out devastation and stalking. It was freaky sometimes yes, but most of the time it was too unbelievable and fake.

I enjoy a good haunting film don’t get me wrong, but not when haunts cross the line over into sci-fi.
Ghost biting, some poltergeist activity, wrapping on doors, throwing things, and possession is really as far as you can go with a ghost haunting movie for it to be scary as hell and enjoyable.

Another thing I couldn’t grasp was how one woman was being haunted and she wasn’t even present at the grave dance. Another woman even died and she wasn’t present.

If these ghosts were out for vengeance on those who danced on their graves, they sure made some huge mistakes on who was guilty for doing so.
Those women should have been free from anything happening to them seeing how the curse was designed for the grave dancers, but whatever. This was a major flaw in the movie in my opinion.

Gravedancers threw in some scary as hell ghosts, that were scary, but they over did it, and it became a mystery sci-fi type movie with really bad actors that are all emotionless.

That is the mood it left me in after watching it. It was a pretty emotionless flick that seemed to drag on, then hurry up, then drag on again.

Like Penny Dreadful, this is another film in the 8 films to die for collection that wasn’t worth my time.

You know it’s a bad movie when your laughing when the good guys die, and you’re rooting for the ghosts.

RECOMMENDATION:

Well its pretty boring, offers weak action, bad acting, but some pretty wicked looking ghosts. It’s not worth a buy, nor a rent.
If you happen to find it for free or have an online movie by mail plan then I’d say go for it. Other than that, it’s a skip in my opinion.
