About a month ago I finally beat the very last level in my mobile video
game Bomberman Land: Battles. I think Bomberman is one of the best games
you could have on your mobile phone, especially when you are stuck in
boring situations, or long draining road trips.
When I smashed through that game though, I went rummaging through my
mobile phone available games for download and came across BomberBlitz,
which seemed to look just like Bomberman, so I figured it would be worth
my $3.99.
Boy, was I wrong!
BomberBlitz starts off like any old Bomberman game, you have your
usual square grid, with interferences blocking you from moving on, and
you have some power ups, and enemies. So at first everything looks
great, until you start playing.
Moving your character around the grid is very annoying, and you end up
blowing yourself up more than being defeated by enemies due to these
horrendous controls. You see if you are not completely level with the
free walking pathway, your character will just sit there until you level
it up perfectly. Turning around, and running away from ticking bombs is
also annoying, and like I said the controls is what killed this game.
It could have been a great game, but no such luck.
Enemies are very easy to kill, however if you are not able to control
your character away fast enough, odds are you will end up dead, once
again, due to controlling failures. Frankly I'm so agitated by this
game, that I'm thinking of asking TMobile for my $4 back.
Levels:
If you are able to have patience after blowing yourself up a thousand
times, and clearing the first level which is grass land, you will have 3
other levels to blow through.
The thorn desert is your sandy desert type land, arctic arena, and
jagged crust. There is nothing special about these different themed
lands, except for the fact that your enemies are slightly faster, and
changed up a bit, and the ground will be a different color.
Power ups include extra bombs, or a heart which is an extra life. You
will need to find that heart otherwise you won't get far.
Making your way to the next scene in a level is equally annoying. You
have to continue to blow up pieces located in the grid and find a hidden
door. Considering the fact that each level only has 3 or 4 enemies
lurking in it, the fun is quickly drained due to the poor controls, and
boring necessity of having to find a hidden door.
Graphics:
For a mobile game, BomberBlitz offers fairly decent graphics, and I
was able to see everything clearly without issues. They could have been a
little more detailed, but the graphics are not terrible. You basically
get a third eye view of your grid, and make your way around.
Overall:
BomberBlitz is a frustrating game. It could have been fun, it should
have been fun. However your controls are so funked up that it becomes
more of a task of patience and a steady eye and finger. I'd say skip it.
