My HDTV came with a very tiny blue microfiber cleaning cloth. I used the
included cloth quite often with nice results. It would swipe up any
dust on the screen, and would leave it looking much clearer.
Unfortunately due to the small size, the fabric piece only lasted for so
long, till I finally had to throw it out.
I refused to use tissue, or any other paper wipe on the screen.
At my local Best Buy I had seen a display cleaning kit, but I was not
about to dish out $20.00 for a bottle of what looked like windex, and a
cloth rag.
When my fabric was thrown out though, I felt I was left with no choice. I made the purchase, and hated doing it. It is called Monster ScreenClean.
In the kit you have a bottle of Monster ScreenClean, which is basically
a small bottle of blue formula, and a blue microfiber cloth. Yes, the
packaging is fancy schmancy, however $19.99 on a rag and a small bottle
of formula is quite ridiculous.
So you are wondering...did the Monster ScreenClean do a good job?
Well yes, and no. It did do a wonderful job at cleaning my laptop
screen, and my desktop screen. Dirt and dust were removed with little to
no effort at all. These screens however have a high gloss to them, so
swiping the cloth around the surface was easily done.
On my Samsung HDTV however the finish is not a high gloss screen, so
maneuvering the fabric towel around the entire surface was a bit
difficult. Not only that, I noticed that the solution, which I only used
in a very small amount was leaving behind rainbow colored streaks,
which caused my heart to skip 1,000 beats a second.
The Monster ScreenClean was OK to use on my model, I called Best Buy
to be sure that it would not harm my screen, and I backed up that
information with a ring to the manufacturer. The unit cost me nearly
$2,000, so I was in no hurry to use this $20.00 solution on it, if it
was not first recommended.
Thankfully I was able to buff out the streaking, but I had to press
down on the screen a little harder than I would have liked to.
My screen is fine, and the streaks are gone, but I would not buy this
one again. I kept the kit however only for the microfiber towel, which
works better without the solution anyway.
My recommendation to others would be to skip out on this one entirely.
Its overpriced, leaves streaks that you will have to polish/buff out by
applying pressure to your screen, which is not good for it. If you have
a high gloss finish to your screen, the solution will work much, much
better.
