I know it may sound like a strange habit, but I am sure that if I have a
habit of collecting blankets, then I am sure I am not alone. Personally
I like thick fluffy blankets, but the moment I wash them they are not
the same anymore. They lose their fluffy soft feeling. Seeing
that I can pick up a new one for only $10.00 at Marshall's, I usually
buy a new one at least once a month. Thus begins the extensive, ever
growing, collection of blankets.
With warm weather being right around the corner though, I decided to
pick up a down alternative blanket. Usually I only buy the fluffy soft
blankets, but I knew they'd be way too hot for the warmer approaching
months, and down alternative blankets tend to be a summer favorite of
mine, because they are pretty universal, they are cool feeling in the
summer months, and warmer in the winter months. It's odd how that works,
but it just does, like quilts.
When passing through the small section of blankets they had for sale at my local Sam's Club, I came across a large king sized Comfort Classics Collection, Down Alternative Blanket for $24.99.
Usually king sized blankets made with such quality that this blanket
was in, would cost anywhere form $55.00-$120.00. Although the blanket
was not real down, it felt like real down. The blanket had intricate
sewed lining through it in order to give it a nice classy appealing
look, and the edges were made of with a silk alternative, which feels
just as fantastic as the real thing.
Seeing that the blanket was so cheap, and so perfectly large, I could not pass it up for the price.
Now, I do not think I really need to mention how it felt, but the
blanket was silky feeling, soft and warm all in one. I had a lovely
night sleep, and all of that wonderful good stuff. I will however
mention how well the blanket withstood its very first washing. Some
blankets can handle the heat, while others simply turn to hideous rags
after a washing.
Many of you who stopped in to read this review are probably wondering how it stood up.
Wash Test:
The Comfort Classics Collection, Down Alternative Blanket withstood
the washing. I washed it as directed on the blanket, and once all was
said and done, the blanket was as good as new. The filling was still
puffy, and none of the threading had been yanked at or ripped.
As far as the silky edges go, they were a bit wrinkled, but not to the
point where the blanket looked hideous. Over time the wrinkled smoothed
out, but they were never quite the same again.
Overall:
I love the down alternative blanket. I never have to worry about loose
feathers escaping the blanket, and it keeps me warm for when I need the
extra warmth, and the clever material the blanket is made of also keeps
me cool on hotter nights. It's a pretty universal blanket considering
you can use it all year long.
