I'm not an iPod person, and I rely pretty much on my old school FM
radio. I was given an iPod for Christmas unexpectedly. I hadn't bothered
using it, because I really don't have the time to pick through music
online, and upload it to the device.
About 3 weeks ago though, I had a few days off from work and I decided
to give the little device a try. Everyone else seems lost without their
iPods, so I wondered if the device would become on of those 'must have with me at all times' products.
In about a day I was hooked. I was going through libraries of old
songs I hadn't heard in ages, and the iPod became my favorite product
very, very quickly.
While my newly found addiction was great, I hated having to use ear
buds to listen to my tunes, so I decided to go out and buy myself the Insignia CD Boombox, with Dock For iPod Devices.
While working as a standard radio, and a CD player, the Boombox also
had a dock that allows me to plop in my iPod in order to listen to my
library right off of the Boombox. The plus side about the purchase was
that it also came with 50 free MP3 downloads, which was an awesome
addition.
The device itself is pretty standard, there is nothing really all that
spectacular about it, but the price was right, and it seemed like it
would get the job done. Simple, low priced, with a nice trendy modern
design to it.
However, you came here because you are wondering how well it worked.
Well folks, save your loot. I had to return this piece of garbage 3
times till Best Buy finally upgraded me from this model, to a newer
better one from another company. A real pain in the butt considering it
was out of the 30 day return policy, and they didn't want to let me
return it, they wanted to send it in for repairs...and naturally charge
me, which was NOT happening.
The first one went back a month after owning it, and that was because
the volume decided to o longer go up. It was such a low sound that you
couldn't hear it coming out of the speakers.
The second one went back 2 weeks following the first week. It had the
exact same issue as the first one nearly immediately. The volume decided
to fizzle out back into the hum low buzz that you couldn't hear even
sitting next to it.
The third one, went back the second it was given to me. I wanted
customer service to plug it in, and have a listen for themselves. As
expected, the volume was so low, that you couldn't hear it even with
your ear up to it. The employees said that was normal.
Sorry but, when the volume is pumped all the way up, and you have to
stick your ear to the speaker to hear it, that is not normal, and if
that is normal this machine was garbage.
Overall:
Save yourself the hassle, spend a few dollars more on a better
boombox, because this one is the pits. That is, unless you don't mind
sticking your ear up to the speaker just to hear what is coming out of
it.
