I've always been a fan of the delicious peanut butter and milk
chocolate perfected cups we call Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I try
avoiding them as much as possible though, because the fat content adds
up quickly, especially if you buy them in value packs.
Whenever I find myself craving a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, I will pick up a pack at a grocery store, or gas station.
Recently while stopping in at a local gas station I was about to grab a pack of peanut butter cups, as I did so though, I noticed something a little different about my usual favorites. The orange pack that they normally come in looked much darker. As it turned out, I was not holding my childhood favorite, I was holding a new dark chocolate version of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
I am not a fan of dark chocolate at all. I don't like the bitter semi-sweet flavoring it offers, however I figured Reese's would do it right, and I was interested in seeing how dark chocolate would weigh in when mixed with Reese's delicious peanut butter center.
In the package sat 2 peanut butter cups, dressed up as Reese's usually dresses up their peanut butter cups. The only difference between the original cups, and these was that the chocolate that coats the peanut butter center was as dark as night.
Taste Test:
I took my first bite, and was surprised that I was not tasting much of anything. The dark chocolate has a very weak flavoring to it, and you do not really begin to taste much of anything until the peanut butter flavoring begins to take over.
All in all, the taste was weak, but the aftertaste left behind is where you have your real flavor win. Unfortunately you only get to taste that flavor for a few seconds before the candy is completely dissolved. For a split few seconds though, the aftertaste is delicious, a sweet dark chocolate flavoring, with the usual peanut butter center that Reese's offers.
Overall:
I did not love Reese's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, but I also did not hate them. I was glad to have found them to even get a chance to try them. I hear the dark chocolate version is pretty hard to come by.
If you happen to come across them, and you're a fan of Reese's, then definitely give them a try. A pack containing 2 cups will only run you around 75 cents, so yes, I'd recommend you at least try them. They're not bad.
