Review of Starbuck's Pike Place Roast Coffee

I love being a part of Buzz Agents community. Once in a while they will send me freebie's in the mail, in exchange for letting other's know about the product in my honest opinion, and reporting back to them how I felt about the product, and how those I mentioned the product to, felt about it.

In my most recent word of mouth campaign, I was sent a bag of Starbuck's Pike Place Roast Coffee.
The coffee however came in a package that I honestly would not associate Starbuck's with. I am so used to Starbuck's signature, white, green, and brown logo colors that when I opened my package and saw this silver bag, with brown coloring added to it, I had to look closely to find the Starbuck's logo.

On the bag there is a small stamp with a photograph in a brown color as well. Looking closely it appears to be a coffee shop, but there is too much blur to really distinguish what the heck it is. Likely it is Pike's Place?

The bag is sealed, but not necessarily vacuum sealed. Basically you can shake it all around and the coffee grains inside of the bag move around. Personally I prefer vacuum sealed coffee bags, because my coffee always tasted fresher when I buy them in bags that are air tight shut.

I opened the bag, and took in a sniff. I could tell immediately that this coffee was going to be bold, so I was sure not to add too much to my coffee filter while I brewed. I knew a small amount of these grinds would go a long way.

The scent is dark, bold, with a very slight tint of burnt coffee. I was not sure how much I'd like it, because I have never been a huge fan of burnt coffee, or bold coffee for that matter.

I brewed up a pot of it, and took in the aroma as my coffee maker burped out the coffee into my pot. The scent was like the scent in the bag, dark, bold, and slightly burnt.

I made up a cup of coffee as I normally would; a dash of cream, a spoonful of sugar, and then added my coffee.

Taste:

At first I was not too thrilled. It had a bold flavoring to it, with a nice natural coffee note that followed. I was however able to taste that burnt offering that I could smell throughout the process of testing the coffee.

Overall:

It's darker than what I normally like, but for a bold coffee, it is not too bad. I would recommend it to those of you whom enjoy bold coffee, but keep in mind, this bag of coffee is pretty pricey!

Although it's a decent bolder dark coffee, it's not one I would personally continue to purchase. I still prefer the addicting flavors of McDonald's morning cup of Joe.
