We had a huge disaster at our house a few months ago, first we had a
giant flood that caused us having to get a hotel, and the second
disaster followed about 2 months later where the bathroom was getting
entirely redone.
This meant, no poopin, no peein, and no showerin! This meant one thing
and one thing only, we needed a hotel! Seeing how staying in local
hotels is an event that does not happen unless there is a disaster we
figured why not treat this disaster kindly, by treating ourselves.
We hit the Internet first, we wanted a hotel that had an indoor pool,
and jacuzzi. We did not care about the size of the bedroom, the star
rating or how good the food was. We just wanted to splash around in the
pool and not be chained down to just sitting in the hotel room all day.
The only hotel we could find with a decent price on Long Island, that
was close to home was the Sheraton. The pricing however was a lot higher
than what we wanted to pay. At nearly $300 per room, per night, we
nearly gagged.
The Sheraton is located in Hauppauge Long Island, on 110 Motor Parkway
11788. We planned on staying for 2 days, perhaps 3, depending on
whether or not the bathroom was done or not.
Check in was easy, and we were greeted with a friendly woman behind
the counter who gave us our key. This room/lounge room was clean, big
and accented nicely. The lighting was dim, but not too dim to the point
where you cannot see. It created an almost romantic type setting, and I
liked it. I lik't it alot!
We brought our bags up into our room which was on floor 2. It consisted of a 2 bed room for me and my boo
(boyfriend), and another bed for my brother and his boo. Mom and dad
stood in another room just down the hall. Oh boy, we had the whole
family. It was sweet. The beds were clean and had fresh blankets,
sheets, and pillows on them. To the far right of the room was a desk
with access to the Internet I believe. We had no intentions of using the
net though, we came to relax, and so far it was a nice relaxing looking
room. Over to the left was a small mini bar with a fridge down below.
In the fridge were some untouchables. We had no intentions of touching
anything in them. In the bathroom oddly enough is where our coffee pot
was plugged in. A sink, a nice sized tub and of course your bowl to do
your business.
We didn't plan on staying in the room for more than a few minutes to
put our things away. We all piled into the bathroom one by one of
course, to put on our swim suits and find the elusive indoor pool and
jacuzzi.
The pool sat on the first floor, and was actually hard to find, once
we had though we were in all glory, a nice giant pool situated in the
middle of the room, to the left was an enormous jacuzzi. What was best
though, was the fact that we were the only ones in the pool room. The
pool only went to 5 feet deep, but it didn't matter, it's plenty deep to
swim around and do laps in. The jacuzzi was a decent 3 feet deep, with a
dial on the wall for guests to change the heat to their comfort zone.
You like it hot, you have it hot. You like it mild, you have it mild.
This was cool. Around the jacuzzi were some plants and ferns used for
decoration and privacy, which was really neat, unnecessary, but a nice
touch indeed.
We swam our hearts out until my brothers girlfriend realized their was
a steam room/sauna. Oh man, oh boy. I can loose some weight while I'm
here. Suh-weet! We steamed it out for a mere 10 minutes or less. I felt
like I'd die. We then took another dip into the pool to cool off.
In the hotel there was also a gym, a dining/bar room, a stadium like
amphitheater, and sun decks. These features though we didn't use, we
were all too enthralled with the pool room.
The dining room however we did stop in to take a peek. No other guests
were using it, and due to that fact we felt sort of awkward going in,
so we passed. I must say though everything was extremely elegant
looking. Instead we went next door a ways to grab some eats.
Now back to the room:
After peeking around the hotel we all grew tired and made our way into
our rooms. At first the beds felt lovely, nice and firm. However
towards the middle of the night I was in pain. I couldn't sleep. The bed
was too firm for my likings, and I was uncomfortable. I knew that I
would most likely not stay the third day because of this.
In the morning I had a sore back, stiff neck and bad attitude. I
walked my way down into the pool room to hop into the jacuzzi to heal
these aches. I then took advantage of the weight room with my brothers
girlfriend where we ran on the treadmill for a few, then back to the
sauna, and to the pool.
The process seemed to be the same all day, repeats of using the weight
room, the indoor heated pool, the jacuzzi and the sauna. Aside from all
of the other things the Sheraton offers, these seem to be the only ones
a regular guest will be using.
Overall it was a decent stay. If the beds were a bit softer our stay
would have been an excellent one. However I can't see myself returning
here again; that is, unless we have another home disaster. Staying in a
hotel local to my area is sort of wasteful...but for travelers and those
on vacation it's a pretty decent stay overall, they offer many
different service, and the hotel is close to many neat attractions and
parks on Long Island.
Nearby there is the Smithaven Mall, Adventure Island, Vanderbilt
Museum, and much more. For more information on this hotel visit www.hotel-rates.com, or www.sheraton.com.
This hotel also allows small pets with a deposit down on the room
which you will get back upon the final inspection of the room to make
sure there is no damage from the animal.
The Sheartons overall star rate is a 3.5.

*Just 45 minutes from Manhattan*The pricing can be a bit high, and
depending on what time of year (or room) you stay could also reflect on
the pricing (expect to pay anywhere from $150-$550 per night), but
thanks to my brother being a cop we were given a discount, a nice
discount actually. So if you work for the police, fire station, or
military make sure you mention it for the discount. They will ask you
for your military ID when checking in, so be sure to bring it along.
In my opinion this hotels rating should be a 4, the only 1 thing I
would complain about are the beds, other than that this was a very nice
stay for us. The hotel has friendly staff, our rooms were always clean
upon arrival into the room, and new towels, sheets, and pillow covers
were provided fresh in the afternoon while we were in the pool, the
grounds were nicely landscaped, the pool was clean, and best of all, it
was all ours!
