At the end of September my boyfriend and I are going into the Bahama's
for out first ever international tropical vacation. We already had the
location planned, and the hotel booked. A week in paradise, white sands
turquoise waters... yet as wondrous as the hotel sounds/looks from the
info we had gathered, we still wanted to know more about the island.
Reading numerous travel guides, and books we came across relatively
the same information in book after book. Picking up a copy of Adventure Guide to the The Islands of the Bahamas, and Turks & Caicos we wondered if it would simply feature the same information, only written in a different style.
The book features 576 pages, all mostly text and very little
photos/drawings. This was not an issue because we mainly wanted
information, more photos would of been nice, but it was truly not
necessary.
The Adventure Guide to the The Islands of the Bahamas, and Turks &
Caicos features many islands within the Bahama's, and featured within
are chapters with information on Grand Bahama, Freeport, Eleuthera,
Bimini, Andros, Nassau, the Exumas, San Salvador, Cat Island, Long
Island, the Inaguas, the Acklins and the Berry Isle.
Seeing how Grand Bahama was our destination, I skipped right ahead to
that particular chapter to see what the contents had to offer.
Excursions we had already read about in other guides was included,
places to eat, hotels, dive sites, scuba sites, boat rides, where to
rent water gear, wave runners, masks, dive equipment and so on was also
included. Everything was pretty helpful, and even though the majority of
information was already known to us from other books, Adventure Guide
to the The Islands of the Bahamas, and Turks & Caicos did offer some
insightful tips that no other guide on the Bahamas had.
One particular thing mentioned was boats that could take you to vacant
islands. Other books mentioned this, but did not go into such helpful
details on how to get there, such as hopping aboard mail carrier boats!
We'd have never of known this without reading this book, so it was a
very cool, and very helpful tip.
Besides mentioning all of the excursions and things to do, the guide
also gave ratings on hotels which was comforting knowing the hotel we
chose was a top pick. Yippie!
Anyhow with that said, I did glimpse through other islands that the
guide mentions, and those chapters were just as helpful and insightful
as the chapter featuring Grand Bahama. The book seriously does not miss a
beat, and indeed there are helpful tips that no other guide mentions,
therefore it is my belief that Adventure Guide to the The Islands of the
Bahamas, and Turks & Caicos is a must read guide if you plan on
going to any of the islands mentioned earlier.
