Movie Review: The Clique The Pretty Committee on DVD

I know I'm probably a little to old to follow teen books, but for some reason The Clique caught my attention and I found myself following the lives of Massie, Claire, Dylan and Kristen.

Although some of the books in the series failed to astonish me, I still enjoyed them. They were quick easy reads.

When I discovered that the book series was being made into a movie though, I was pretty excited to see how they went about it. I was also interested in seeing what the characters would look like, in comparison to the characters I had imagined in my head while reading.

The Clique (movie) follows the same group of girls, and the story rings very similar to the actual events that occurred in the book.

Claire who's family is not that wealthy recently moved into the pool house of the rich wealthy Block family. Their daughter Massie Block is a spoiled rotten rich snob. At the same rate though, she is also one of the most popular girls in the entire school. Everyone wants to know her, and many want to be her. Massie is the equivalent to the 'it' girl.

Claire however wants to be Massies friend badly. Massie on the other hand cannot stand the sight of Claire, and cannot stand how Claire is always trying to be her friend.

Massie makes it a point to make Claire's life miserable, and Massies friends Dylan, Alica and Kristen also make it a point to be nasty to Claire, simply because Massie tells them to.

Claire decides to strike back by sneaking into Massies room to send her friends instant messages using Massies account. Before long Claire manages to steal away Massies popularity, and her friends.

Claire's scheming though only lasts for so long, and everything backfires on her when Massie discovers what Claire has done.

The end, like the book is a pretty decent happy ending for all. I won't ruin it though by filling you in on what happened. I will say though that the ending was good.

My Opinion:

Now the characters that were used as the Cliques main characters all seemed suiting to the roles that they played in the book. Claire played by Ellen Marlow seemed to fit the part to the tee. A sweet wide eyed innocent beauty.

Massie on the other hand was portrayed as perfect in the book, although Elizabeth McLaughlin played the role of Massie quite well, I did not picture Massie looking like the tall gangly teen who played her in the movie.

The sidekick friends Dylan, Kristen and Alica played by Sophie Anna Everhard, Bridgit Mendler and Samantha Boscarino fit the bill of the characters I imagined them to look like while reading the book.

Overall The Clique is a fun and entertaining movie for pre-teens and teens alike. Although it is more geared at younger teens, I know there is a handful of older geeks out there like me who will enjoy the flick as well. It plays out well, has some really funny parts, and is a good flick that girls will really enjoy.

Note:

The B word is used in the flick, so parents who don't want their kids watching flicks where cussing is involved, do know the B word is used during the film. It inly occurs in one scene, and honestly I don't think it's that big of a deal...but alas; to each his own.
