OoOoOo there is really nothing I love more than movies that are based on true story's; although many of these 'based on true story'
flicks are very over done, and things are sometimes added in that were
never true. However after reading a few news articles on the REAL
Fab Five story, it turned out that the Lifetime original movie did a
pretty dang good job at keeping things relatively in sync with reality.
Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal is basically the
real story put together into a movie, and to be honest it was a pretty
good flick. The story takes place in a the small town of McKinney, Texas
and it involves of course a group of 5 cheerleaders. These cheerleaders
are not your average pretty girl hopping around in a short skirt waving
pom poms around though. You see one girl who is considered the ring
leader of the Fab Five thinks she rules the rouse because her mother is
the schools Principal, and it appears that no matter how horrible she,
and her group of 4 friends are, they never face any real punishments for
their actions, because the Principal lets them off easily.
Things however take a turn for the Fab Five as soon as a new coach for
the cheerleaders team takes over. The new coach quickly learns about
the Fab Five through the rumor mill at school. According to a few
teachers she wouldn't be the first, second, or even third new coach the
team has had this year. In fact, the Fab Five manages to get rid of any
and every new coach they get if she does something they do not like.
When the new coach tries getting one of the Fab Five pulled from the
team due to her not being able to perform certain tasks for the team,
the Fab Five seek revenge.
The coach does not allow the girl on the team, and no less than 24
hours later, the coach is told by the principal that she suddenly 'is'
allowed back on to the team.
Pretty quickly the coach learns that no matter what she says or orders
these girls to do, the schools head principal will go over her head and
allow the girls to do whatever they want.
Throughout their reign, the 5 girls managed to get away with drinking
and driving on school grounds, posting sexually suggestive photos on the
internet in their uniforms, stealing school teachers phone numbers and
using them to send perverted text messages, mouthing off to their
teachers, beating up other girls, threatening school officials, and
basically running around with no regards for the rules, and the law.
Basically the majority of the show you watch as the Fab Five try and ruin the new coaches life, they try to get her to quit.
This coach though is a hard baller, and she does everything in her
power to see that the girls face consequences for when they do something
they are not supposed to. No matter how many times the coach reports
the girls though, there never seems to be any punishment instilled, as
the Principal always lets them off lightly with little to no punishment
at all.
After a tiring and frustrating battle with the principal, the coach
then instead decides to get the media involved; she figures if the
school won't do anything about the 5 girls, than perhaps getting the
media involved will bring them down.
My Feelings:
Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal was actually a pretty good
movie. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be a good flick seeing how
cheerleaders were out main characters, however it surprised me and had a
very wicked 'Mean Girls' like vibe to it. What makes it all the
more wickedly delicious though is the fact that this movie followed a
real life story nearly to the tee.
For more information on the Fab Five, do a quick google search. Not
only will you find actual news articles from the story, but you can also
view photos of the girls who apparently thought they were beautiful and
powerful enough to get away with anything. The actors in the flick were
a heck of a lot hotter than the real group of girls. The real group
look like your typical teenage girls. Nothing special, and definitely
nothing that would ever pass for popular where I come from.
For me most of them are just blah. I just found it so funny to see the real
Fab Five, and was pretty impressed that these girls were capable of
doing anything that was played out in this movie. I guess looks can be
deceiving, seeing how most of them look like typical boring teen girls.
All in all though, I felt that what the girls did was typical mean
girls teenage crap, only they got away with it without punishment (at the time they did anyway),
as of now though I'm sure plenty of them are being harassed due to the
media attention, and now this movie that have peaked the interest of
many into wanting their real names. The saying goes though, do on to others...
Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal as of now is not on DVD, but
it can be picked up on a DVD disc copy at iOffer for just a few dollars.
You also may get lucky and find it being shown on Lifetime, so check
your cable listings.
I recommend it, not highly, but I was kept entertained, and the
story was interesting. The actors and actresses also did a great job at
portraying their characters.
I'd slap a 3.5 rating out of 5 on to Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal.
