The Easter Bunny hopped his was through my sisters home last night,
leaving behind 2 giant baskets filled with chocolates, clothing, jelly
beans, and of course games for my niece and nephew.
I stopped in long after the Easter Bunny's arrival, and made my way
into my niece's bedroom. Her and my nephew were glued to the television
with large Bingo boards in their laps.
I love Bingo, so I sat in to see what the heck sort of Bingo game this
was. One look at the Bingo boards and I realized this was a kiddie
version of the game. On their Bingo boards character's faces such as
Peter Pan, Jasmine, Pooh, Jafar, and Mickey glanced back at me paired
with numbers next to their photos.
This was cool because my niece who is still learning with numbers
could pair the character photos that would display on the television set
every 15 seconds. Instead saying 'I got B9', she would say 'Hey I got
Jasmine!' Which made things easier for her.
After watching them play a round, I then decided to jump in. Once we
were back at the DVD's main menu we got to choose what type of game we
wanted to play. Regular Bingo, Pattern Bingo, or Blackout.
We went with Blackout. In this game you have to fill the entire board to win.
Inside of the box that the game came in their were about a hundred
little red chips with Mickey Mouse ear logos drawn on in white. These
chips were for the board obviously.
Once the game began we were at it. Me, 25 years old, up against a 5 year old and a 10 year old. It was on!
The game started out like I expected. A large picture of the number
paired with a Disney character would pop up on the screen. Moving on to
the next number was 15 seconds, which at my age is excruciatingly
painful. For young kids though, 15 seconds was the perfect amount of
time needed to see if they had that character/number on their Bingo
board.
About 5 minutes into the game suddenly popped up on the screen a sort
of intermission called 'WILD CARD'. During Wild Card intermissions we
were forced to watch a one minute clip from a random Disney movie. Small
clips of Bambi, Peter Pan, etc, etc, would play. After the clip was
over we were then given a free space to put over any character we
wanted, so long as it was in the proper colored line, and the line was
not already filled with chips.
At the end of the game if someone calls bingo, a large screen will pop
up to display called numbers/characters. This is to double check to
make sure you don't have any cheaters in the room!
Overall we had a lot of fun playing Blackout. The pattern bingo game,
and regular bingo game sort of flew by faster than we liked, so we stuck
with playing Blackout for awhile.
My niece was really into the game, and my nephew enjoyed kicking out
butts throughout the game. Both of them really enjoyed the minute
cartoon clips that would pop up randomly throughout the game.
Although
this added a lot of time to calling a win, they did both enjoy it, and
it was nice seeing clips of my childhood cartoon classics.
My sister told me that the Easter Bunny may of paid around $20.00 for
the game. In my opinion it was twenty Easter dollars well spent. The
kids seemed to enjoy it, and families alike would also find enjoyment
playing this together. It truly is just as fun as regular Bingo, only
the kids can get involved, making it a really great family game.
I highly recommend Disney DVD Bingo to families with children. It's a
nice way to spend time together on boring rainy days. It also helps
younger children recognize numbers, colors, and match up characters.
You can find Disney DVD Bingo at local toy stores down the board games isle.
