Review of Locks Quest for Nintendo DS

Locks Quest was a video game for the Nintendo DS that I never thought in a million years I would get hooked to. I watched every now and again at my boyfriend who would submerge himself in this game for hours at a time, and curiosity got the best of me, because he never picks up the Nintendo DS, and I knew this game had to have been good for him to sit there staring at my little screen.

After picking the game up for a few minutes I finally understood what the big deal was, this game was awesome!

Plot:

Lock becomes your main hero, your playable character. His mission is to defend his hometown from Lord Agony and his minions of clockwork robots who recently have come to wreak havoc on his home. During a wave of clockwork robots sweeping in, his sister disappears, and it is his job besides finding her, to protect the village while building up their defense by making walls and other build-able objects in order to defend his village from intruders.

Game Play:

Locks Quest is a game that switches between battles and building, and at first everything seems simple enough, but as the game continues the challenge of course gets harder. During battle you must quickly fix any ruined walls that the enemy has battered. Luckily the touchscreen works perfectly and responds fast so Lock can switch from fighting to rebuilding without a major time loss or interference to battle.
It's like an interesting take on an RPG, only you do not have to jump back and forth from game play, to a battle where life points are slowly taken away. This game just throws you in, and lets you go.

Graphics:

Locks Quest does not deliver the most mind blowing graphics, but they are not the worst I have seen on the Nintendo DS either. They combine 3D graphics with drab coloring and not so visually stunning characters. However this does not distract from how mind blowing, and addicting this game becomes. The graphics are mostly based off of preference. I prefer colorful lush environments, while others won't mind missing out on such visual pleasers. In this game, you won't mind missing out.

Sounds & Music:

The very first reason I continued to learn the ropes of this game when I first started it up, was due to the beautiful music that played in the background. It's addicting, pretty, and dare I say, awe inspiring?
At any rate, many of you are going to like what you hear when it comes to Locks Quest. It definitely makes up for the 'not to lovely' graphics.

Controls:

Locks Quest controls are very easy to grasp, but you will have to pay attention to the very beginning which plays more like a mini tutorial, before the more hardcore battles come in to play.
Overall though, once you have it down, it is like riding a bike; you won't forget.

Overall:

Locks Quest for the Nintendo DS has been one of the funnest and most addicting games I have played on the handheld to date. It delivers tons of action, strategy, and defending a sleepy little homestead in a video game has never kept me more motivated and hungry for more.
