I love getting little gift packs for the holidays, you know the cheesy
ones with the ice cream cups and fancy spoons, or neat hot cocoa sets
featuring a nifty new mug, a mini bag of marshmallows and a cute
patootie spoon to go with it.
This year I got a few of those, but one singular packet of hot cocoa
peaked my interest on a cold snowy day, and that packet of cocoa
happened to be a red sleeve of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Rudolph's Favorite Chocolate Creamy Cocoa.
I knew these cocoa packets all to well however, and I knew that either
this hot cocoa would taste delicious, never to be found again, or it
would be another horrid stale tasting waste of milk cup of cocoa.
I prepped my milk, heated it up, and tore the packet open. The packet
itself is adorable, featuring out red nosed classical pal Rudolph right
on the front of it.
Once torn I inhaled the fragrance. It smelled dusty, and semi old. Nothing like my top favorite Land O' Lakes Cocoa.
Since I had none of my favorites on hand, I hoped this one would do
the trick. If anything still be good, but offer a different flavor.
A few sips in though and I ended up pouring the rest of the cocoa down
the drain. That dusty fragrance it let off, was actually tasted in the
cocoa. It had a chocolate flavor sure, but it also had that old flavor,
as if the cocoa had sat around in some old abandoned warehouse for a few
years.
While the packet is cute, classical and whimsical, and it gives off
such a fun warm holiday feel, the cocoa itself is relatively disgusting.
So if you happen to stumble across this one in some 75% off after
holiday bin, do yourself a favor and just skip on it.
