Book Review: Wicked, by Sara Shepard 5th Book in the Pretty Little Liars Series

I have been obsessed with Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series since the first book hit shelves. Although the books are geared more towards young adults and teens, I, at 26, find myself flipping through page after page, book after book, without interruption. The Pretty Little Liars are addicting!

When I saw that the newest installment, Wicked, was being sold in hard cover I did not hesitate to cough up my $14.00 to see what would go down with my favorite bad girls from Rosewood.

In the last Pretty Little Liars book, Unbelievable, we all thought we had learned who Ali's killer was.

We were all left thinking that Ian was Ali's killer. Not only that, we also discovered that Mona who had moved into Ali's old house found Ali's old diary and was using the information in her diary to get back at Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily.

However with the latest installment of the series, Wicked, we learned that things are not what they
seem.

The old school chums are faced with having to be witnesses on Ian's trial for the murder of their old frenemy Ali. In the last book Spencer recalled a memory where on the night of Ali's disappearance.

Spencer had fought with Ali, and Ali went running out of Spencer's barn. Spencer chased after her, and the two had an argument. The argument got so bad that Spencer pushed Ali, and recalled her head cracking against a rock.

However Spencer (as of now) is supposedly not Ali's killer, as she recalled Ali running off with someone else in the woods that night after she had pushed her. She thought that the person she had last seen Ali run off with was Ian.

In Wicked the girls lives are all introduced, and in the beginning of things all of them seem to have their lives back on track. Things between Aria and her mother have improved, Hanna even decided to finally accept her new stepsister Kate, and Emily discovers that she may actually be attracted to boys again.

Spencer however seems to be the only one in the group that has a lot of leftover issues that she was dealing with in the last book Unbelievable. Spencer's parents totally ignore her, and something huge occurs that makes Spencer question her entire relationship to her family.

With that aside though, most of the group seems to have things back on track, when suddenly 'A' begins sending text messages to the girls again.

At first they think that the texts are coming from a copy cat A, seeing that Mona is dead.

However as time goes on, and the messages become more personal, the girls know that 'A' is back to get them.

My Feelings:

I sort of figured things would go like this. The series has been this way since the first few books were released. You have some mystery person who seems to be stalking Hanna, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. This mystery person also seems to be watching at every moment the girls 'fudge up'.

Although the superhuman watching skills this mystery person has is a bit overdone, the book still kept me on my toes, and had me once again, second guessing everything, and everyone.

In Wicked, the book seems to end on the same note that previous books have ended off on. Although it's getting a little repetitive, it's still just as exciting as ever.

All in all, Wicked was a great book, and it managed to add new twists, characters, and turns to the storyline. I am seriously hoping they turn this series into a movie, or a TV show series. I highly recommend this one, but in order to fully understand what is going on, you're going to have to read all of the books before it.
