Candy Review: Limited Edition Junior Mints, Inside Outs

Last weekend I came across some Limited Edition Junior Mints called Peppermint Crunch. I had no idea that just below those new limited time mints sat another holiday limited edition flavor.

At first glance from what I saw on the box, it looked like they simply flipped Junior Mints inside out. With a white coating, and a dark inner mint cream. Normal Junior Mints of course, have a chocolate coating, with a white inside filling.

I imagined the Inside Outs, would be mint on the outside, and chocolate on the inside. Making these limited edition yummies taste more like chocolate, and a little less like mint.

Seeing that this flavor was a limited edition, I grabbed 2 boxes. One for myself, and one to wrap up as a simple cheap stocking stuffer.

Once home, I opened up my box, and took a look inside. Junior Mints Inside Outs look like original Junior Mints; of course though they are white. As far as shape though, everything is pretty much the same. Some of the Junior Mints were bumpy and a little bent out of shape, but for the most part, everything was in line with the original Junior Mint appearance.

The minty scent jumped out at me, and they too smelled near identical to the original Junior Mint candy. So far everything seemed the same, except for the color.

I think they got the name wrong though, because honestly there is not much 'inside out' about the Junior Mints, Inside Outs. The white coating is actually some sort of white chocolate, and the inside is still a creamy mint flavor chocolate. Honestly on first impression it was like biting into an original Junior Mint, only with different coloring patterns to it.

All in all it was pretty disappointing.

The inside chocolate is a little more gooey than the standard Junior Mint, however it tastes exactly the same. The white outer shell is also a little harder than the original Junior Mints. The Inside Outs seem to have more crunch to their bite than the original soft and creamy mints.

The outer white chocolate shell also does not really even come through as a white chocolate flavor because the inside mint chocolate is overpowering.

Overall, if you are a fan of Junior Mint, you may still want to give them a try. At $1.50 a box it is really no big loss. However if you like your originals, than simply stick to them, because Inside Outs really don't have much of a difference to offer besides a color change, and a slight change in texture.
