As a child, I never really liked the comic strip Dennis the Menace.
I found the kid to be an annoying pain in the butt. However, after
watching the Dennis the Menace movie back in 1993, I actually grew to
like Dennis the Menace simply because the kid they used in that old film
was adorable, and all characters looked exactly the way one would
imagine them if they were real characters.
When I got to sit down to watch A Dennis the Menace Christmas,
I immediately didn't like the characters chosen for the film. Dennis
was never dressed in his legendary red suspenders, Dennis' mom and dad
were never believable, Mr. Wilson looked too thin, and Mrs. Wilson just
seemed like she had to act really hard to pull off a nice low toned
voice.
At any rate though, I continued watching the movie hoping that it
would offer something that I would enjoy. Plus, perhaps it would allow
me to get in touch with my own Christmas spirit.
In A Dennis the Menace Christmas, Dennis picks Mr. Wilson's name out
of a secret Santa bag, and does not know what to get him. After
realizing that Mr. Wilson has no Christmas lights on his house, he comes
to the conclusion that Mr. Wilson could use some Christmas spirit, and
that Christmas spirit would be Dennis' gift to him.
Using a list that Dennis acquired in school, about Christmas spirit
Dennis basically sets forth on a task to help Mr. Wilson get in touch
with his Christmas spirit.
Dennis as usual has lovely intentions behind his plan, but as usual
things work out for the worst, turning his good deed into pure
havoc...as usual the victim is Mr. Wilson.
Dennis does something that upsets Mr. Wilson so much, that Mr. Wilson
tells Denis that Christmas is stupid, and there is no such thing as
Santa!
After realizing his wrong doing, it is up to Mr. Wilson to make things right.
All in all, A Dennis the Menace Christmas, was a decent holiday movie
that I think families and children alike will enjoy. Although some parts
in the flick are poorly acted out, it was not horrible as to where I
wouldn't recommend the movie.
Even though A Dennis the Menace Christmas is not a holiday movie I
would add to my Christmas movie collection, it is in my opinion worth a
rent, especially for those with younger children, because there are some
cute, and silly comical moments that children would enjoy.
WARNING:
As a child I never ever came across a flick where any actor has ever said 'there is no such thing as Santa',
and honestly if I did, I'd probably be a little upset. I am not sure if
all parents would be comfortable with that line for their kids, so I
wanted to add it in, that the issue of no Santa comes up.
Availability:
The family channel has been running the show all month long, so if you
check your TV guide, you may be able to come across it. If not you
could always rent it, or pick up the DVD.
