Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000: Review

So I have a new laptop. I already know that I absolutely hate, hate, hate using the touch pads that come built into all laptops. It's not that I can't use them, it's just the simple fact that touch pads slow me down.

I find using a mouse increase my productivity by nearly 40%. This is the reason that I went on a hunt looking for an easy to use wireless mouse to go with my new notebook. Not only did I want an easy to use mouse, but I also wanted one small enough to look like it went with my laptop.

I went with the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse, for these reasons.

The mouse was small, but not micro small. I knew I could not work with a micro small mouse, and believe me, while searching for a mouse, I came across things that looked more like micro machines in the world of wireless mice.

Second reasoning was it's shape. The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 has a shape that I know and recognize. It is suitable to fit in the palm of my hand, has a middle scroll, and two side click buttons. Most mice are made this way, but I have seen a few available with only one click button.

For me, one click buttons are nothing but Greek to me. I tried using one before and ended up clicking things I didn't even know were clickable.

Third reason was that the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is plug and play. It comes with a small USB connector that pops right into an available USB slot. You simply plug it in, a command comes up, and 5 seconds later my laptop recognizes it with a micro fast installation.

Literately it took a mere 10 seconds to recognize my new mouse.

When you are done using the mouse, you simply unplug the USB connector and place it at the bottom of the mouse itself. It clicks in and stays in place with ease. You do this to save on battery life. If you leave the USB plug connected to the laptop it will drain the battery.

Speaking of the battery, Microsoft guarantees 6 months of use if you remember to unplug when finished.

That's a pretty bold statement. Even if the battery didn't last for 6 months, the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 only requires one AA battery, which is not that big of a deal.

Battery Installation:

This was a breeze. The battery is placed right under the hood of the mouse. There is a small button located on the outside of the mouse. You hit the button, and it will release the battery chambers lid. You simply add the battery, and it will click lock back into place. No rocket science here.

Distance:

You can travel pretty far away from the laptop, and still have the mouse moving around. Trust me, you can go far; so fa that the screens text would go blurry and you wouldn't be able to see what you were doing that far away anyway. Basically what I'm trying to say is that this mouse can be way, way, way away from the PC and still be usable.

I find this mouse crucial for those who are left handed. A major must have even.

Overall:

The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 has been a little lifesaver for me. It allowed me freedom from wires, with fast and easy installation. I am impressed with the mouse so far, and have no complaints. I do not experience any lag in my mouse pointer, and I'm happy with my purchase.

I recommend the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 to anyone who cannot stand the touch pad functions on laptops. It's also neat for those with desktops who cannot stand wires.

Pricing and Availability:

The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 comes to $24.99 at Best Buy. You can pick this mouse up online as well, but I have found that Best Buy carries them for a lesser price.
