Movie Review: Blind Dating

When I first came across Blind Dating at my local Blockbuster, I took one look at the cover, and immediately thought it was going to be another one of those teen movies, where girls walk around half naked and have sex at the drop of a hat.

I HATE movies like that, they do nothing for me, and I find them to be degrading. However when I flipped the DVD over, it actually had a pitch that I had never heard before.

Danny (played by Chris Pine) is blind. Being blind though makes it hard to date. With the help of his older brother (played by American Pie's Eddie Kaye Thomas) Larry, Danny will be thrown into the dating world.

When every date goes sour thanks to his condition and his older brothers picks in women, he gives up.

While all of these sort of funny dating scenes occur, Danny is also in the middle of undergoing an operation to hopefully restore his vision. At the doctors office he meets a new front desk nurse who he at first does not like. However the more Danny visits the hospital, the more he grows a liking to her.

About 3 visits in, the Indian woman named Leeza also takes interest in Danny and they begin a mini relationship that lasts...oh, a few days.

So the young Indian chick gets Danny to fall in love with her pretty quickly, while keeping a selfish secret. She is due to get married. A family custom of arranged marriage. Leeza tells Danny after he already gave her his heart. I found that selfish seeing how he is blind! As if the poor guy doesn't have enough on his plate.

Leeza however has no interest in the perverted man that she is arranged to marry. She loves Danny, but cannot break tradition. (Yawn).

After Danny finds out she's engaged to be married, they of course take their separate paths.

There is your plot. Blind man falls for Indian chick, who is due to marry some Indian guy she does not love. Although the plot is a little stupid, it's believable enough to swallow.

I don't need to tell you the ending of this one. It's obvious what direction Blind Dating will go after Danny finds out his love interest is due to marry some other bloke.

Acting:

The acting was pretty decent as well. Chris Pine did a wonderful job at portraying being blind, and Eddie Kaye Thomas was funny from start to finish.

The only issue I had with Blind Dating though was the lack of chemistry between Danny and Leeza... they are supposed to be in 'love', however none of their love scenes together seemed believable. For me they seemed to have a friendship connection; nothing more.

Comedy:

Blind Dating is supposed to be a comedy. It however only delivers a few decent laughs. Most of the funny scenes thrown at you are predictable, and some scenes were outright ridiculous and unbelievable.

Overall:

Even though this supposed comedy was more of a drawn out love story, it was not a horrible flick. I enjoyed it, but it's not a title I would actually buy. Blind Dating though makes for a good rent.
I'd give it 3 stars out of 5.
