Crazy Eights is part of the 2007 films to die for collection. This is a
compilation of horror flicks that have promised fear, gore, horror, and
shock like we have never seen before. However from the films I have seen
from the collections so far, nearly all of them have failed to impress me. In fact some of them were so bad that I felt stupid for wasting my time watching them.
Crazy Eights though popped up on the SciFi channel, so of course I had to Tivo it.
Once I got the chance to actually watch it though I was pretty
surprised at how quickly the flick managed to suck me in to the stories
plot.
At first though the movie was a little sketchy as it jumped from one
character to another. From what I gathered all of the characters it
jumped from were all suffering from creepy dreams that I imagine felt
real, and frightened them.
Next the movie jumps to a funeral (which threw me off), however all of
the people gathered at the funeral were the people in the beginning
that the movie jumped around in the beginning. They are all here for
their friends funeral. His final wishes were for his remaining friends
to go seek out a time capsule they buried when they were kids.
With a map in hand the 7 friends drive out into the woods following
the directions left by their dead friend. They come across a trunk that
all have toys and items from their childhood. When they dig deeper into
the trunk though, they discover the skeletal remains of a girl.
Instead of calling the cops, they decide to leave the past in the
past, by leaving the body in the trunk out in the open while hurrying
away from the old crime scene.
They drive around and around, and end up getting nowhere. When one of
the friends sees a young girl run down a path into a huge white house,
they follow her hoping she will have directions to help them find a main
road to go back home.
They discover though that the house is abandoned, and there is no little girl in it (Immediately
one can't help but think... oh yeah... that's probably the dead girl,
and likely all of them had something to do with her death. Now she is
back for vengeance!!!).
Not too far into the flick they discover that in the basement there is
a secret path that leads to some odd and creepy underground hospital.
Here they discover they have all been here before thanks to the hanging
photos of themselves on the wall when they were children.
As Crazy Eights go on they all discover more and more about why they are here, and for what purpose.
So the 'reason' to their being here is pretty stupid, and honestly the
more the movie went on, the more confusing things got. It turns out
they were all in the hospital to learn the emotion of guilt as children
(why though is still pretty confusing). Other children were used in
torturous experiments. The Crazy Eights though for some reason were all
in the same ward, and being taught guilt- yet with no motive as to why.
This confused me though, because they had not done anything wrong until after they escaped the hospital as children.
What I mean by that is all of the children placed this one young,
smaller and much weaker girl into the trunk with their stuff. They
promised that once they were out and got help they would come back for
her. Sadly though the little girl suffocated and died before they got
back to her, so they all left her there. Somehow as years passed, they
managed to 'forget' about this incident. Unfortunately for them, the
little girl hadn't forgotten, and wanted them to remember her... or
something like that.
Due to the fact that each character is getting picked off one by one
in gruesome ways, you are led to believe that they tortured this girl
horribly; only they hadn't. They tried to help her, but failed to reach
her in time to save her.
Anyhow, with a vengeful ghost on the loose, and person's getting
picked off one by one, the remaining characters have to try and figure
out a way to stop the spirit from killing. Yawn!
Overall:
Crazy Eights started off pretty promising. It had a creepy vibe, a
good cast of characters, and an overall good horror feel to it. However
the more and more it went on, the worse it got, till finally the ending,
which was an all out crap-fest.
