Movie Review: Son of Rambo

It is not everyday you come across a movie that you can say you will remember it forever. I have only a very small collection of such movies, and recently I added a new one to that list of movies I'll never forget.

I would normally of never even bothered to pick up a flick called Son of Rambo. I was never a fan of Ranbow in particular, but my brother kept telling me to watch it, that it was funny, and had a great ending.

This past weekend while browsing a local video store I came across the film, and seeing that there was nothing else rent worthy, I went with it.

The movie starts off pretty good, and managed to capture my attention pretty quickly.

Son of Ranbo follows the life of a boy named Will who lives with his highly strict and religious mother who has all of these rules and regulations on what Will is allowed to do. Will pretty much is forced to attend his religious church more often than needed, he is not allowed to watch TV, and the only book he seems to own is a bible from his forced religion.

Will though is a dreamer, and his book is filled with drawings and mini comics he creates.
He meets a young boy at school named Carter whom seems abrasive at first, but it becomes clear that he is simply looking for friendship. The flick focuses on Wills life as much as it does Carters.

While over at Carter's one afternoon, he catches glimpses of the movie First Blood. Will became obsessed with the movie, so much so that he convinces Carter to make a movie called, Son of Rambo using Carter's older brothers camcorder.

The friendship grows strong, and the two rely on one another to fill a void they both have.

Quickly though Will gains popularity as soon as other children in school find out that he is making a movie. Will lets the new found popularity get to his head, and he begins to ignore Carter.

During one spat the two have Will turns against his friend, and actually physically hurts him by hurdling a rock at him.

While Will and his new posse of actors continue to make the film without Carter, something tragic happens to Will, which in turn leads to Carter attempting to help him.

Without ruining what happens, I will simply say that Son of Rambo was an excellent film; and my brother was right, the ending was simply flawless.

This movie covers a story of friendship, hardships, and family woes. All in all though it is definitely a film I will never forget.
