Movie Review: Step Brothers

Normally I cannot stand Will Ferrell, and I am not shy to admit that, so naturally when I got to sit down and watch his latest flick Step Brothers, I figured I'd pick it apart just based off of the fact that I cannot stand his face. (I want to punch him in the face, just like a co-worker at his brothers company had said in the movie).

Normally I'd skip a movie with Ferrell in it, especially after the horrendous flick called Bewitched that he starred in!

Seeing that I like John C. Reilly though, I had to give it a shot. I figured maybe him being in the movie would save it or something.

I pre-judged Step Brothers though, and even though the entire movie was filled with silly comedy I still was laughing, and just 10 minutes into the flick, I actually momentarily forgot that I hated Will Ferrell! He was actually making me laugh!? Now that's something new!

Step Brothers starts out with the introduction to Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell), and Dale Dobeck (John Reilly). Immediately you are able to recognize that both still live at home with their parents, and both are unemployed.

However as soon as Brennan's mom and dad begin dating, the wedding follows shortly after. Now Brennan must move in with his new family, and his step brother. Immediately the two hate one another and you have a good 15 minutes of non-stop hilarious immature scenes where the two are making one another miserable.

After that the two hit it off, and proclaim one another their best friend. Basically Step Brothers is a flick where 40 year old men, act like they are 14, and as stupid as that sounds, it actually worked. At least for me it did.

Shortly after becoming new best friends, the two decide to try and make a music video together, where they destroy Dale's fathers sail boat. Due to the non-stop commotion going on in the house because of the two, Dales father and Brennan's mother file for a divorce.

It is now up to the two to try and get their parents back together, that is, if they can work out their own difference now that they are accusing one another of being the reason for the split.

Overall, Step Brothers is a stupid flick, I'll admit it, and not everyone will see or find any humor in it, but if you still have anything left of your inner child in you, you will find yourself laughing at the crude, stupid, silly jokes, and ridiculously immature behavior of both Ferrell and Reilly.

Step Brothers managed to win me over, and I'd easily slap on 4 stars out of 5 when it comes to rating it. Although I do not recommend you go out and buy the DVD, I feel that Step Brothers is definitely worth a rent. As I said though, it's not for everyone.
