In one month my boyfriend and I are taking a vacation to the Bahama's.
Before heading out to the tropics though we wanted to make sure we had
everything we would need before getting there. Of course our first and
foremost necessity was a snorkel, mask, and fins for diving and
snorkeling. Rumor has it, some all inclusive resorts will make you pay
an hourly rate to 'rent' out this same equipment.
Instead of worrying about charges, we went ahead and purchased what we needed before getting there.
I already had a Tilos Mask, and snorkel, my boyfriend however didn't buy a set till this past weekend.
We came across a U.S. Divers Cozumel Mask, Seabreeze Dry Snorkel, and Proflex II Fin Snorkeling Set
at Target for 15% off, so he was able to scoop the set up for only
$25.00. A pretty damn good deal seeing how in the set he got a tempered
glass mask, a snorkel, and fins for the price of one.
The mask is pretty, with a transparent blue frame surrounding the
double pane tempered glass. The strap is clear and is easily adjustable
to your head. Overall the mask is pretty comfortable. Although I still
prefer my Tilos over his mask, trying his mask on I was surprised at how
comfortable it actually was.
The fins matched the mask, featuring the same sea blue color as the
mask, only the fins have a sparkly fleck effect to them. Men don't
worry- even with the sparkling effect, they are still very manly!
The fins also have cuts in the sides, to supposedly allow for faster movement in the water.
The snorkel also matches the set featuring the same sea blue coloring,
with a black top valve. The snorkel though is my least favorite item in
the batch, because its a common J shaped snorkel with no flex tube.
There is however a purge valve at the bottom which will come in handy
for when submerging in the water.
Let's Put It To The Test!!!
Now before highly recommending this set, we of course had to test it.
First the mask:
You have a very clear view in the water, with little to no
obstructions to your view from the frame. The mask however fogged up
pretty quickly, which was annoying. Purchasing the wide-i magnetic fog
wipers could solve the issue quite well. For those not looking to
purchase the magnetic wipers though, you should wash your new mask in
toothpaste or baby shampoo to rid the mask of the fog. New masks are
know to fog up faster than older ones, so its a common issue. A rinse
though with the above products mentioned will work like a charm. Rinse
often on new masks!
With that aside though, the mask is comfortable, and you can wear it for long periods of time without discomfort.
The Fins:
The fins have adjustable straps in the back, so you can loosen and
tighten them as needed. They stood on my feet with ease, and his feet as
well. They push you through the water at very fast speeds and are
comfortable. I experienced no loss of fins in the water either. Most
fins Ive used in the past have fallen off the moments I tried using
them. The adjustable straps make sure this does not occur.
Overall, the fins fit, stood on, an worked as expected.
The Snorkel:
My least favorite in the bunch, but it worked as needed. The purge
valve works without issues, and the mouthpiece is actually quite
comfortable, and will fit with ease even in the smallest of mouths.
Overall:
For $25.00 you truly cannot beat it. The U.S. Divers Cozumel Mask,
Seabreeze Dry Snorkel, and Proflex II Fin Snorkeling Set is a great set
for children and adults alike.
