I'm not really one to write reviews about food, or snack foods unless I
truly think they are 100% worthy of spreading the word. I found one this
month. They are called PB&J Jamz, and honestly I was not even going
to buy them when I saw them at our local Sam's Club. I figured they'd
be nasty, messy, and straight up gross.
Due to the fact that they were only around $8.00 for a large box of
nearly 30 Jamz, I went ahead and bought them. Usually these Jamz sell in
grocery stores for $5.00 for a small pack of 8.
What Are Jamz?
Why the most convenient easily packed lunch/snack I have ever gotten hold of is what Jamz are!
Jamz though are actually peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches.
They are basically like hot pockets, only they use real white bread. The
crusts are removed, and the sandwich is sealed around all corners to
ensure that nothing leaks out of the sides.
They are a little smaller than a standard sandwich; but truly, don't
we all waste a majority of the bread anyway? Especially those like me,
who cannot stand crust.
Packaging:
Jamz come in individually sealed purple plastic wraps. They are meant
to be stored in the freezer, which is a plus...but at the same time a
negative.
The plus side is that you can take them from the freezer and add them
to your kids lunch box. By the time lunch is served the Jamz will be
fully thawed out. The down side is that if you want to just whip one out
of the freezer and eat it instantly, you will end up with a semi frozen
center.
However if you are like me at all, the frozen center is not such a bad thing because it will not completely freeze. The peanut butter will be really, really cold, and so will the jelly. Rock hard though; not at all.
It is still edible frozen, that is if you don't mind a little frost on
the outer parts of the bread.
Not everyone will like them this way, but I do, and I think it's worth a try.
Thaw:
Thawing does not take very long, in about 10 minutes your Jamz will be
completely ready to eat. The bread will fluff out and still taste, and
have the texture of a fresh piece of white bread. Overall I was happy
with that, because I truly thought that these things would turn into
some sort of soggy messy square block of mush when thawed out 100%. This was not the case.
Taste:
Jamz taste just like a regular ol' peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The jelly is delicious, and the peanut butter is creamy. It's as if you
made it yourself, fresh ingredients, fresh bread, and all. If there was
anything fake or artificial about it, I would not even be recommending
them.
Overall:
Jamz are a convenient way to pack a lunch. Simply remove it from the
freezer, toss in a lunch box, and you are done. I personally bring them
along to work. I leave them in my bag, and by noon the sandwich is ready
to eat.
