I have loved the comic genius that comes from both Tina Fey, and Amy
Poehler, and as soon as the hit flick Baby Momma was available to rent
on Blu-Ray, I scooped up a copy.
Baby Momma is about a woman named Kate (Tina Fey) who is told by her
doctor that she cannot have children due to her T shaped uterus. Kate's
biological clock is ticking though, and everywhere she goes she sees
baby's.
When she feels she has been left with no other choice, she searches
for a surrogate mother with the help of Chaffee Bicknell Surrogacy
Center. Sigourney Weaver plays the owner of this company, and oddly
enough she actually delivers some pretty funny lines.
The agency hooks her up with Angie, (Amy Poehler) a low class woman
who is rude, vile, and crass. Kate however is so desperate for a baby,
she goes ahead with the procedure of making Angie the surrogate mother.
Not too long after meeting with Angie, she shows up at Kate's house
with her bags and tells Kate that she just broke up with her boyfriend
and naturally Kate offers Angie a place to stay till she has the baby,
or finds a place of her own.
This is where the movie takes a turn from funny, to downright hilarious.
Kate is a clean kept upper working class woman, while Angie is
basically portrayed as white trash. There are so many scenes that will
have you downright gut bust laughing. One particular scene Angie cannot
get the baby proofed toilet lid up so she takes it upon herself to use
Kate's sink as a place to take a pee.
Not long into the movie Angie takes a genuine liking towards Kate, and
has a secret she doesn't want to tell her. It turns out Angie never was
pregnant. The procedure failed from the get go, but Angie now likes
Kate so much that she does not have the heart to tell her.
During a routine check up on the baby's progress though, we discover
that Angie was in fact pregnant all along! Things though are not what
they seem, and without ruining the twist that the movie delivers I will
say that Baby Momma is a pretty funny movie.
Tina Fey is hilarious, and without Amy Poehler as her trailer park Baby Momma, the movie would not have been the same.
Besides these two stealing the comic limelight though, I had to add
that Steve Martin plays as Barry, Kate's oddball quirky boss. Instead of
rewarding his workers who do good things with money, he instead likes
to reward them with uninterrupted eye contact. It's probably the
weirdest thing I have ever seen, but his odd behavior is remarkable, and
just fits in with the rest of the movie. Every scene Steve Martin is
in, you will find yourself laughing out loud.
Blu-Ray Quality:
I try to rent/buy Blu-Ray whenever it is available, and Baby Momma is
available on both regular DVD, and Blu-Ray disc. However if you play
Blu-Ray discs often, you will notice that not all Blu-Rays are created
equally. Some Blu-Rays look absolutely stunning, where others the
difference between Blu-Ray and regular DVD is barely even noticeable.
Baby Momma is one of those Blu-Ray movies that does not add much extra
special detail to the overall movie. In fact I imagine that a regular
DVD played on my HDTV would look just as good.
Basically if you are looking to buy Baby Momma, buy it for less on a
standard DVD and save yourself $15.00. It is not to be missed though, no
matter what type of disc you are viewing it on.
