H20 Skim N' Splash Ball Does This Ball Really Bounce on Water?

I saw the YouTube videos on this new ball that when thrown on top of water, will skim and bounce across the waters surface as if it were bouncing on a hard surface. Intrigued I was, but had no huge desire to purchase this ball online for ridiculous prices.

Browsing through Target this weekend though, the ball sort of found me. They were having a huge discount on pool supplies and toys, and low and behold there it was. Labeled as H20 Skim n' Splash Ball. The package came with not one, but two skim balls in the color yellow.

I was able to feel the skim ball right through the packaging. It has the same feel as a Nerf ball would. The packaging had a photo of a child throwing the ball across a pools surface, and it appeared to be bouncing along like a regular ol' rubber ball. Seeing how I was able to scoop the two pack up for only $4.98, I figured it was worth a try. If it worked it would be awesome for in the pool and at the beach. If it didn't work, well... I'd likely give it to my dog to chew up.

My Use:

I went out to my pool nearly the moment I got home, I wanted to see this ball in action.

I threw the ball at the waters surface and... kerplunk! It didn't do a damn thing. It floated at the surface, but that was just about it. I threw it again, and the same result occurred. It seriously gives the same effect as a tennis ball would.

I threw it about 10 more times, and finally I got it to work. It bounced once across the surface, which did in fact look pretty sweet. It took a lot of throws though to master that effect.

I tried again, and it didn't bounce across the surface. It seems you have to throw the ball perfectly in order for this miraculous skimming over water effect to take place. So basically the ball will bounce over the surface of water 1 time out of 10 throws. It looses its whole fun factor when you realize that you are not going to be chucking this ball back and forth across the pool to a friend.

Overall:

Unless you master the perfect chuck this ball is not going to bounce, or skim over the waters surface. I'm sure like with any sport, if you practice long enough, you will eventually get the gist on how to throw the ball perfectly. For children though who want the ball to do what the package promises... no such luck.

No. This ball is a sinker... skip it.
