A week before Christmas I came across the most adorable collectors doll called, Zapf Fondest Memories Collector Doll Baby's Arrival Babsi, at my local Walmart.
The doll sat adorably in a used and abused box, in the Christmas
section priced at 40% off. I figured the doll would come to no more than
$20.00, and I thought it would make for a perfect Christmas gift for my
6 year old niece.
The box she came in was a mess. It looked like the employees had
played kick ball with it, so I thought when I got the baby home, I'd
remove it from the box, put it in a cute basket, and wrap it up for her.
Unfortunately when I brought the doll up to ring it out, it rang up at
$59.99. There was no way in hell I was spending $60.00 on a doll. Babsi
was cute as hell, and clearly the most lifelike looking baby doll I'd
ever seen offered at Walmart. I got a manager to come over to look at
the condition of the dolls abused box. Even though it was clearly a
return, they refused t offer me a lower price.
I huffed, I gruffed, and left pissed off.
Babsi though was obviously meant for me, because 3 weeks later I found
the baby doll once again. This time I figured for sure she'd be on
sale. I went to do a price check on one of the in store customer
machines, and Babsi no longer had a price associated with her UPC code.
The doll simply said 'see sales associate'.
I brought her up to check out to see what they'd say.
5 minutes later I walked out of Walmart with the doll they refused to
give me for less weeks earlier. I paid only $8.97. A deal I could not
refuse.
Whats so special about Babsi?
First and foremost she's a collectors baby doll. Babsi is in fact so
adorable, that after I bought her I thought about keeping her on a shelf
with the rest of my collectible porcelain dolls.
She comes with a collectible Fondest Memories Storybook, and a bunny blanket.
Babsi stand in at 17 inches tall, had adorable lifelike brown eyes, and brown hair. Her eyelashes are also real.
She comes wearing soft pink pants, and an adorable silky white quilted
top, with lace embroided into it. Her little pink hat is also seamed
with the same white silky quilted material that her shirt is. Her arms
and legs are made of soft vinyl, but the rest of her body is soft and
stuffed. Her legs though contain some sort of wire inside so she is
easily manipulated to sit, or stand.
Why you may think twice before giving Babsi to a younger child...
I was going to give Babsi to my niece, but after looking her up online
and realizing that the Zapf Fondest Memories Collector Doll Baby's
Arrival Babsi, is more of a collectors doll, I decided to keep her for
myself. She now sits with a group of other baby dolls that I have
collected over the years, on my shelf.
Another reason you may want to keep Babsi in her best condition, is
because likely you will not get lucky like me and pick her up for $8.97.
Babsi is normally priced at $60.00, if you actually can find her at
Walmart.
If you cannot find her there though (and likely you won't), she is priced online at anywhere from $129.99 to $149.99.
If you are a collector though, Zapf Fondest Memories Collector Doll
Baby's Arrival Babsi is definitely an adorable little face that you will
want to add to your collection. The baby doll is stunning, lifelike,
and adorable.
