Review: Hasbro Elefun Game

This past Christmas holiday my niece was given the Hasbro's Elefun game, immediately she wanted to set the game up and begin playing. Me being a kid at heart still decided to help her set it up so we could play.

What is Elefun?

Elefun is fun, there is really no other way to put it. I had seen commercials on TV showing what the game does, and I was skeptic. However I was surprised to see that Elefun does in fact work.

The game is simple. There is a large blue elephant that sits on the ground. When you turn him on, his nose blows air out of it releasing 30 colored butterflies. There are 10 red butterflies, 10 green ones, and 10 yellow ones. I was a bit baffled by the fact that there were 4 catching nets, and was blue, yet there are no blue butterflies.

With that aside, the elephants blue nose stretches out to 4 feet long once powered on. All in all, it is a pretty cool sight to watch.

Once he is on the butterflies go floating into the air, and buzz about as if they are really flying. A few of them may land on the floor, but those butterflies can be picked up by smaller children to count towards their pile of caught butterflies. The game in general is excellent for hand and eye coordination, because trust me, those butterflies are not easy to catch.

The game comes with 4 nets. A blue net, a yellow net, red net, and a green one.

Up to 4 children can play, as well as others if they prefer catching the butterflies with their hands.

We had no issues while playing the game, and we even made up a few rules of our own. From catching as many as you can, to catching only one color without accidentally getting a wrong color. We also played trying to catch the only with our hands.

In other words, we were able to make games up as we went, which added to the fun and learning process of colors, and coordination.

I seriously liked the game myself, my nieces and nephews loved it, and smaller babies who were also present seemed to be enthralled with the butterflies that came pouring up into the air out of the elephants nose.

One huge issue about Elefun though is the fact that it runs on 4 C batteries that are not included. The batteries drained out seriously by the end of the night. We had it running for nearly the entire time, and it kept the kids busy, but for brand new batteries to suck dry that quickly; simply put... it stinks!

Overall:

If you are able to look past the fact that the Elefun Game drains batteries like water, than I would recommend this game. It's fun for children and adults alike. It also helps learn colors, numbers, eye and hand coordination. It is all around a great game... and kids will be learning something at the same time.
I definitely urge parents to participate with their children in this game.

You can pick up Elefun at nearly any superstore, or toy store. The going price is around $19.99, but you can pick it up for less if you look around for sales online.
Enjoy!
