Baby Blues: Horror Movie Review

I stumbled upon Baby Blues at my local Blockbuster. I personally have always loved horror movies in which kids are involved. I either think the flick will deliver an evil kid, a ghost kid or a kid that is haunted, and the moment I flipped the DVD, the quick scan of the back of the case's box art suggested I'd be getting one or the other.

However, I got neither, what I did get was a full heart pumping, horror-fest, that did, in fact, involve children... only in a way I had never ever expected.

The moment Baby Blue's began it stated that the movie was based on actual events! Whenever I see those words in print I get pretty excited, even though I know that a lot of the story is nothing more than a completely exaggerated story on an actual story. At any rate though, it was exciting nonetheless.

Anyhow, Baby Blue's starts off interestingly enough. You have a mom who looks oddly like a beautiful Angelina Jolie lookalike, an older boy (probably 9 or 10 years old), a younger son (maybe around 5 or 6), a beautiful blond daughter (no older than 5), and a newborn baby boy.

Yes, it's a full house over here.

At first I didn't know what to expect from this movie, and in my mind I imagined that the father who recently got in was their abuser, the tormentor. However as the flick went on, I came to the conclusion that their mother was suffering from some sort of mental illness, or she was being haunted. I wasn't sure from the get go.

The abusive father speculation was thrown out the window the very moment he left for work in his semi. I knew as soon as he trailed off in the truck, that these kids were all in for one hellish night spent with mom, who was obviously loosing her mind the more the flick moved on.

Not long after their father leaves for work Jimmy (the oldest son) walks into his mothers bedroom to discover the newborn baby dead on the bed! When he runs into the master bathroom he finds his mother sitting by a tub filled with water with his mother attempting to drown their little sister (I guess this is where the 'based on actual events' came from, because there was in fact an actual true life story about a mother drowning her children in a tub).

Jimmy manages to smack his mother over the head with a long hand held mirror, and saves his sister from the tub. He also grabs his younger brother and leads them out of the house. Instead of continuing to run though, they are stopped by their mother. They all stop in their tracks, while their mother calls over her youngest son.

Unfortunately for him, he is grabbed by his mother, and she stabs him to death on the porch in front of Jimmy and his little sister.

The next half hour we watch as the two remaining children run for their lives, while attempting to save their own lives from their demented sick and twisted mother.

Baby Blue's was actually a shocker. The events that took place in the movie truly had my heart thumping, and in my mind I kept hearing myself say 'Run kids! RUN!!!'

Not a lot of horror flicks are capable of getting a solid reaction from me. Some flicks have a few suspenseful moments, and some have a few really good scary parts...but Baby Blue's was straight up horror, and shock from start to finish.

The acting was superb. The young children played such a convincing and dramatic role, and I feel that they are faces we will likely be seeing again in the future of young Hollywood, because honestly I have never seen such young children deliver such raw talent, and real convincing emotion.

Colleen Porch, who plays the deranged mother delivers a terrifying role without skipping a beat.

If you are into horror flicks, or all out shockers than Baby Blue's is a horror flick you will not want to miss. It had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the very end.

Baby Blue's gets a solid 10 star rating in my opinion. It is one that will be added to my horror collection as soon as I can find a copy.
