Documentary Review: A Haunting in Connecticut

The first episode I ever caught of Discovery Channels A Haunting, and I was hooked. I have not missed an episode yet. My obsession all began with the pilot, A Haunting In Connecticut.

When the show first began I was skeptical on whether or not I would like it. I mean I love a good ghost story, but without any actual video or audio evidence, how on earth were they to keep me interested?

A good story is how, a damn good story, a scary story with a mini documentary type movie thrown in.

The narrator of the story was what caught me. The guys voice is eerie, he sounds haunted himself. Suddenly I'm introduced to Kelly and Ed Parker. This is their story, their haunted story.

The family is moving to Connecticut to be closer to the only hospital that will treat their son. He is sick from cancer, and with little money they buy a home that is within their budget.

The catch?

The house was once a funeral parlor. Boggity Boo!!!!

Frick that!!!

Anyhow, the basement is the creepiest spot of all. This was where they once embalmed dead bodies. In the middle of the room the actual embalming station is still present.

Of course the Parkers clean everything up and re-do the basement into a large bedroom for the two boys.

Why they would put the boys in the freakiest part of the home is beyond me. I mean it was a huge house... but no... they get tossed into the basement with the boggie boos.

Nearly immediately the oldest son Paul is seeing entities, and his behavior is changing rapidly. He tells about the ghosts, but no one will listen.

What becomes of Paul? Does the evil make itself known to just Paul, or the rest of the family?

I won't ruin what happens to Paul, or the Parkers...but I will say this; A Haunting In Connecticut made me loose sleep. The entities that are presented to you are so believable that I could not sleep. The picture of the Dark Man with his dark beady soulless eyes still is embedded into my mind.

Although they had no physical evidence; nothing buy a story and a great re-make of the story... I was left feeling creeped out, and afraid to turn out the lights. I had to click on an episode of Family Guy just to erase the images from my mind. I'm a huge horror fan, and it takes a lot to freak me out. The story though was so convincing, and done so well, that I couldn't help but get a bit wussified.

The child who played Paul did a wonderful job at portraying a normal child, and then a disturbed one.
This particular episode is a true 10 in my book. My absolute favorite. I wish they'd play it more often. A Haunting In Connecticut; don't miss it. A Haunting airs on Discovery Channel. Check your guide for upcoming episodes.
