I have suffered from insomnia since I was in my early teens. I'd lay in
bed, begging myself to fall asleep, but thoughts would run through my
head like a train. One thought would pass, and another would enter.
I figured trying to control my thoughts would help. I even got desperate and would try to count sheep jumping over a fence.
It's frustrating when your body won't allow you to rest. I had even
had nights where I would cry about it, and end up punching my pillow. My
body told me I was exhausted, but my mind would not allow sleep to
naturally occur.
In my days I have tried many remedies which promised me a good nights
rest. Although some of these remedies worked, and I got some relief, in
time my body would grow accustom to them, and it would no longer work. I
have tried sleeping pills, but learned I had to be careful, because
even pills that promised they were non-addicting were full of crap. I
tried aromatherapy products, I tried drinking tea with chamomile, tried
expensive white noise makers, you name it. I have tried it.
Insomnia comes to me in bouts. There will be at times a full solid
month where I sleep like a baby. The following month however I'm
counting sheep trying to force myself to sleep.
My most recent attempt at defeating the insomnia bug came from my
local supermarket. My boyfriend actually bought me a bottle of LunaSom
PM.
It's a name I had never heard of; the bottle basically promised the
same thing all sleep aides promise. Non-addicting, uninterrupted sleep,
wake up feeling great, non-drowsy feeling the next day, all natural.
I was willing to try it.
The suggested amount to take was 2 pills before bedtime. I took two
pills, and stood awake all night. Staring at the ceiling hoping the
pills would kick in. They never did.
The next night I took 3 pills. I hate taking more than what is suggested, but I went ahead.
I feel fast asleep an hour later. I slept like an infant and enjoyed
every minute of it. I woke though a few hours later. I took the pills at
11pm, slept till 4am, and was wide awake.
The barking dog was the main reason I woke up.
The next night though I repeated the same process, and yet again woke
up at 4am. It seemed to be a 4am pattern. For me LunaSom PM only worked
for 4 hours.
Although 4 hours is not a huge amount of sleep, its something, and it
does help. When I wake, I feel well rested, and energized.
I have been taking them for less than a month now, and the pattern is
always the same. I wake up at around 4am, and sort of rest till I have
to wake for work. There are some times where I am actually able to fall
back asleep, but those cases are a bit rare; although they do occur.
Habit Forming?
Like any sleeping pill you give to someone who does not sleep, it is bound to become habit forming. I don't care what
the bottle says. If the pill works once, the user is going to continue
to use them thinking that if they don't, they won't sleep. Because we
think we won't sleep without the pills, our mind will not let us sleep,
therefore they do in fact become habit forming.
Non-Drowsy?
I usually wake up at 4am using LunaSom PM. However when I wake I do
feel chipper and well rested. Even if I am unable to fall back asleep I
still wake up feeling good. There is no groggy side effect. Many sleep
aides leave you with that groggy feeling. LunaSom though, allows you to
wake up feeling like you had a full well rested 8 hours of sleep; even
if you only had 4.
Side Effects:
I have not experienced anything odd. My health is in check, and my
mood is the norm. I have used sleep aides in the past that have actually
effected my mood, and my thoughts. LunaSom so far; for me, seems relatively safe.
Overall:
So far I am happy with LunaSom. I do hope though that once the bottle
is gone, I am able to get a nights sleep on my own, without the aide of
pills. I hate taking pills, and would love to be able to sleep
without relying on them. People who do not suffer from sever insomnia
just don't understand. They will view those who have insomnia as
'excuses to take sleeping pills'. This is far from the case.
LunaSom PM helps get 'some' sleep. Some sleep for
someone who suffers from insomnia is like winning the lottery. It does
not come often, and if there is something that can give us temporary
relief it's a winner in my book.
LunaSom PM so far has worked, I have not had any bouts of loss of
sleep while taking them. I did/do however have to take one more pill
then recommended for it to work.
