Food Review: Grapples, the Apples that Taste like Grapes

Grapples, simply put, are apples, that taste like grapes.

I first heard about Grapples about a year ago, but sadly they were not being sold anywhere I looked. Till now that is.

Last week I stumbled upon a 4 pack of apples, that normally I would pass by. However when taking a closer look, I realized these were no ordinary apples. These were the infamous Grapples that I had waited an entire year to try.

According to what I knew about Grapples, they were supposed to have an obvious flavoring of concord grapes. As Homer Simpson would say, 'Mmm...' my favorite.

The apples are Fuji apples, and are not genetically altered. The grape flavor is infused into the apples. (Genetically altered probably would of been way freaking cooler though).

The 4 pack of Grapples cost a bit more than what I would usually spend on 4 apples. Mind you they were not very big apples either, so for the $5.00 I was about to spend, I kept telling myself that Grapples better damn well be worth it. I never spend more than a few cents on a single apple. Yet each Grapple comes to $1.25 each. Sadly you can't get buy them as singles.

Taste:

I anticipated this moment as I bit into my very first Grapple. The taste hit me quickly, indeed the Grapple tasted like a grape. I could also note the original apple flavor. Combined it was a sweet mix that I enjoyed.

However...yep, the big H.

Grapples do not have that concord grape flavor that I thought it would have. Instead it had a sweeter sour taste of grape that reminded me of grape pixie stix. Don't get me wrong, it was still very delicious, but not exactly what I was imagining.

Overall:

Due to that fact that Grapples are unique, I most likely would buy them again, just to share them with friends and family members who have never seen or heard about the infamous apple that tastes like a grape. Everyone I have shared with enjoys them.

Where To Find Grapples:

I got lucky and came across the 4 pack at my local Waldbaum's. For those who can't find them, know that you can order them online at the official Grapple website.

Here at the site you can order them in sets to come to your home monthly. However they do not sell the 4 packs as of right now. There is though, a store locator, so you can find out where they are being sold locally.

I recommend Grapples. They're definitely a fun and different nutritious treat.
