Mudge Boy: A Movie Review

I have watched approximately 2 movies in my lifetime that totally left me scarred. Those 2 flicks go to Mudge Boy, and Fat Girl (a French foreign flick).
Today though I wanted to tell you about Mudge boy, and why it is so bad, it is good.
For me, even though you do not like what you are seeing, if a movie is able to etch itself into your brain and disgust you to a point where you know you won't ever forget about it...then as bad as it was, it has to be good.
Mudge boy is just that movie. As sickened as I was by the whole thing, it impacted me. Negatively of course...but it was a movie that actually temporarily shocked the shibbles out of me.
Mudge Boy follows a teen boy by the name of Duncan. In the beginning of the movie you right away notice that there is something wrong with Duncan. He is slow, possibly mentally challenged, and in dire need of some sort of help. You see Duncan recently lost his mother and only has his father to look up to for guidance. His father though is mostly busy working on the farm and does not pay much mind to his son.
Duncan's loss of his mother goes deeper than most; and dips into a level of insanity. You will see him in a few scenes trying to be her. From talking through his mouth in her voice and saying things she would normally say, to becoming obsessed with her clothing and left over belongings, to falling in love with her favorite chicken that lives on their farm.
As the movie goes on you begin to feel sorry for him, because as it seems he obviously is screaming out for help, and there is really no one for him to reach out to.
Perry is another teen boy who is Duncan's total opposite. He is popular, girls flock to him, and Duncan meets up with him in town one day and a small friendship begins to blossom. Perry invites Duncan along to parties, and although everyone else disapproves of Duncan, Perry makes sure that nothing bad happens to him.
As the friendship grows it takes an odd shocking turn that I myself did not see coming.
One day while hanging out in Duncan's garage, Duncan tells Perry about his mother, and begins to dig up old clothing of hers. Perry then asks Duncan to put on his mothers wedding dress.
Duncan a bit uncomfortable with Perry's odd demands puts the dress on. This scene is where the movie takes that shocking dive and you are left with eyes wide opened as you scramble for the remote to hit fast forward.
Mudge Boy for me was an interesting movie dealing with a mildly mental teen, and then it went and threw in a twist that no one saw coming. I for one thought that the movie would blossom into this happily ever after ending, where Duncan makes a friend and things return to normalcy. However it had nothing to do with his strange behavior or mental state.
I'm not going to ruin the ending, nor am I going to blow the scene that will forever be etched into your mind.
If you want a deeply shocking movie that will forever be etched into your mind then rent Mudge Boy...but don't say I didn't warn you, because what you are about to see is ....there is no other word to use but shocking.
Recommendation:
Due to sexual content I do not recommend Mudge Boy to anyone younger than 21.
