Every time my boyfriend and I are in Petco, we usually walk out with
$80.00 worth of junk that we really didn't need to buy for the dogs. We
tend to spoil them, accidentally.
Our last trip to Petco was about a month ago, so I figured I'd get
around to reviewing a few of the things we ended up buying for our dogs.
I ended up getting my small Yorkiewowa (Yorkie Chihuahua mix), a few
items of clothing and a few small plush toys. My boyfriend though is
attached to our Bully, (Bull Terrier) so he ends up spoiling the big boy, while I focus on the little one.
Due to Bully's massive size and strength, it's very difficult to find
plush toys that can withstand the beating he delivers. We still buy him
plush animals because he loves them, but he tears them to shreds in less
then a few hours. He loves every minute of it, but we only buy them on
rare occasions because we know how he is with them.
When my boyfriend picked up a Petsport Laser Chase II, I looked at him
like he was crazy. What on earth would our dog want with a stupid
laser? I had used lasers in the past as a toy for our cat, and she
barely bat an eye to it. I had a hunch that he was about to wast $5.00
on this stupid device.
What Is It?
The Petsport Laser Chase II is basically a standard laser pointer,
only minified. The concept... click on button, move red laser dot around
on floor, and hope for a reaction.
I always figured these types of toys would only be useful with cats,
seeing how they like chasing things. However our old cat Buddy didn't
pay no mind to it. I figured our China Doll (the cat) wouldn't bother
with it either.
He wasn't buying it for China Doll though. He was buying it for Bully; a massive 55 pound dog.
At Home:
Out of all of the cool chew toys and treats he bought for Bully, the
first thing he wanted to try was the Petsport Laser Chase II. He took it
out of the package, and had to insert the batteries. The Petsport Laser
Chase II comes on a key chain, so you can add it to your purse or keys
(God knows why you'd want to, but it's there).
After getting the batteries in, he clicked down a stainless steel
button for a test. It worked, but what he found annoying was the fact
that he had to hold down the button otherwise it'd turn off. The button
is also sort of rough on the hands, so it can cause discomfort after
awhile.
GET OUT!
He tried playing with Bully inside! Seeing how Bully is 55 pounds of
pure muscle, I kicked them both out of the house. Once I made my way
outside to see how things were going, I noticed Bully in a frenzy
digging and slamming his face at the ground. The stupid dog was trying
to eat the red dot that my boyfriend was swaying back and forth on the
ground.
He had to be careful not to hold the laser still in one spot because
we were afraid he'd break teeth on the concrete trying to catch the dot.
Bully seemed to love it, I watched as he ran like a bat out of hell
after this red dot. He ran himself ragged, and had a hell of a time
chasing the laser pointer. I guess it was a decent investment. I was not
expecting the dog to even acknowledge the laser, yet here he was having
a ball.
After seeing how much Bully liked it, we tried it on the other dogs.
Some barked at it in fear, and others acted curious, but didn't bother
chasing it. China Doll acknowledged it, but grew bored with it once she
discovered she couldn't eat the red dot.
Overall:
The Petsport Laser Chase II is a decent little device. However many
dogs don't bother with it. For only $4.99 though it's not a huge loss. I
like it because it provides a huge work out for our Bully. I've never
seen him so excited over something so stupid.
