Review of PupPeroni Lean Original Beef Flavor Dog Snacks

I sometimes sing to my new puppy when he eats, that Stewie Griffon Dukes of Hazard episode when Stewie busts out on the front porch with a song that has stuck with me ever since I had heard it... "Met er' on my CB, said er' name was Mimi...seemed like and angel come to earth...come to earth...
Oh' my big ol' fat baby loves to eat! Loves to eat!"
That's my new bull terrier puppy, Bully. He loves to eat. Anything and everything.
He is a greedy dog by nature, I read that online before I even bought him. Bull Terriers have hearty appetites, thats just a given, but I was not expecting his appetite to be so gigantic.
It seems every time he gets hold of his food bowl he will sit there and eat till his tummy looks like it is about to bust. This damn dog always goes for the great gusto, and when anyone, or anything, goes for the great gusto when it comes to food, they get fat.
Because Bully is still a puppy we have to train him, and with training comes rewards. But...but he's so fat! If we keep rewarding him he's gun' blow!
That's where Pup-peroni Lean Original Beef Flavored Dog Snacks plays a part in Bully's rewarding/training program. You see Bully doesn't know the difference between a fatty snack and a lean snack. He chows down on anything you place in front of his big triangular shaped head.
So basically we have Bully on a diet, only he doesn't know it. Shhh....
Pup-peroni's are 90% fat free. A little fact he doesn't need to know. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.
When Bully does a good dog thing, we will rip a small piece of pup-peroni and feed it to him, he happily munches away leaving not a trace of the snack behind.
Pup-peroni lean treats come in a green tin foil like 5.6oz resealable pack. This mumbo jumbo means nothing to Bully, all he cares about are how many do I get?
Well your dog will basically get a good helping of about 16-20 pup-peroni sticks (don't give them all to him in one sitting though, God!). They look just like a dehydrated Slim Jim only with a more gritty like texture.
Each stick is 5 inches long, and we easily rip them apart into smaller treat sized pieces for Bully. He doesn't seem to mind that he's not getting the full 5 inches.
Why Does He Like PupPeroni Lean Original Beef Flavor Dog Snacks So Much?
Could it be because of the ingredients, which include: Beef, wheat flour, soy flour, corn syrup, soybean meal, water sufficient for processing, propylene glycol, wheat gluten, corn starch, salt, calcium sulfate, phosphoric acid, potassium sorbate (used as a preservative), caramel color, natural smoke flavor, garlic powder, onion powder, BHA (used as a preservative), red 40? Perhaps.

Any Issues?
Bully likes it, yes, but Bubba my other dog (Yorkie) won't touch PupPeroni Lean Original Beef Flavor Dog Snacks. And some of my mom's dogs also will not even give Pup-peroni the time of day.( I guess that's what happens when you raise spoiled rotten Chihuahuas and Yorkies- mind you these dogs have a room designated just for them with beds set up like the seven dwarfs room. I'm talking mini beds that look real enough to pass as a little persons bed.)
Coming from a home with (now) 11 dogs I always have to do the snack test on all of them.
Bully the bull terrier loves them, Tybalt the husky approves, Peanut the overweight Chihuahua likes it, and Flea the Chihuahua who stopped growing at 3 months old, likes to chomp down as well.
None of the Yorkies will let it touch their tongues. They simply do a sniff test, and walk by.
So that's 4 out of 11. That's not too good statistically. I guess it is a treat approved by only some dogs. Not all of them are going to like this one.
Pup-peroni's, in my opinion smell good enough for humans to eat, I myself wouldn't mind chomping down on one if I were a dog.
They have a delicious smoked bacon scent, and I was actually surprised that only 3 other dogs found this snack to be enjoyable. I honestly thought they'd all munch away with an inviting scent like that.
Where My Dawgs At?
You can find Pup-Peroni lean treats at any local supermarket, pet store or department stores such as K-Mart, WalMart and Target. The price is usually around $5, but you can get them on sale for less.
Overall Opinion:
Pup-peroni makes for an excellent low fat training treat, so long as the dog is not picky. Luckily we have 4 dogs with some sense that will eat them.
However seeing how only 4 dogs out of 11 ate it, I feel that this is a treat you may want to pass up if you happen to have a picky dog. It would just be a waste of $5.
It seems that our larger drooling breeds like them more than our smaller, picky, furry friends do.
Note-
Don't expect your dog to magically get skinny either.
Your dog will require a proper diet and exercise to see any results. Although Pup-peroni is a lean snack, it will not make miracles happen. You have to change an overweight dogs entire eating routine and replace fatty foods with low fat foods. Mainly though, exercise is the key to keeping your dog healthy and happy.
