Review: Sesame Street Workshop Elmo Check Up Time Plush Toy Playset

I've liked Elmo since I was a wee one. I never imagined him still being popular amongst the kiddies this day and age though. Elmo though, still has his groove, and young kids still adore the red... um... friendly monster, puppet, thing?

My cousins 2 year old is in love with Elmo, just like every other 2 year old...she has just about everything that has ever been invented regarding Elmo. Elmo this, Elmo that... Elmo is everywhere, and it looks like her bedroom had puked up Elmo dolls all over the place.

She loves her Elmo's, but I guess at times shes a bit forgetful, because she ended up leaving her Elmo Check Up Time Plush Play set behind the last time they were over.

I knew she would be sad about leaving it behind, but I also took it as an opportunity to have a little one on one time with this doll in order to write a review on it.

Appearance:

It's cute. Very cute actually. The Elmo doll is soft plush, but it is not cuddly soft, due to the large battery bottom pack that you can feel inside of the doll.

The Elmo Check Up Plush comes wearing a pair of light brown khakis, and a white Tee with a picture of some orange fuzzy character that looks like a moldy gingerbread man.

On Elmo's foot their is also a sewn in blue band aid that can be removed lifted to check underneath. It works like a door, you can open it, but not remove it because it is sewn in on one side.

The Elmo Check Up plush also comes with a plastic stethoscope, a thermometer, and a tissue.

I imagine the reason this particular plush was made, was to help little kids get over that fear of going to the doctor. The doll repeatedly says, that was easy, or All better!

Your child plays the roll of the doctor, and Elmo is the patient. I'm not sure what his ailment is besides the runny nose and the band aid, because each and every time he asks you to take his temperature he is never sick. 'Not to high, not to low, just right!'

While playing with the doll, I came to realize the plastic accessories are nothing more than tools that will eventually get lost outside. That is okay though, because the doll still works even without them. Your child can use their finger to activate Elmo.

Interactive Points:

When I was a child, dolls that talked only had one means of activation, and barely said 2 phrases. Toys these days though are completely different, and there are activation points in areas all over them.

Check Up Elmo has a bunch of buttons to press that will allow him to say different phrases. If you touch his nose, he will say 'hey that's Elmo's nose, give it back!'. If you keep messing with his nose he will ask you to help him blow his nose. To do so you simply use the tissue that came with the doll, press his nose, and listen as he blows.

Elmo's foot that houses a band aid also has an interactive button. He will either giggle when you press his toe, or mention something about little piggy's. He may also randomly ask you to look under his band aid.

The main interactive button is his body. A small squeeze of the body and he giggles, or his heart will thump.

The Sesame Street Workshop Elmo Check Up Time Plush Toy Play set is a lot of fun, but he gets annoying fast, and repetitive really fast as well. Although he has many activation points, he sort of says the same things over and over again. Over time, the screeching baby voice can crawl under your skin.

The toy also does not ask for much. He asks you to blow his nose for him, take his temperature, check under his band aid, and listen to his heart beat.

Overall:

Sesame Street Workshop Elmo Check Up Time Plush Toy Play set is cute....but like I said, it gets old, and fast. The Elmo plush though could possibly help make a visit to the doctor a less fearful event... so I recommend the plush for this reasoning.

Pricing and Availability:

You can pick this Elmo up at any toy store nearby. You can also pick up the set online. Cartoonfansclub.com sells this doll for $30.00, for that price I can say that the plush is worth it. Anything higher though, I'd skip.
