Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry: Review

Today I came across on internet review praising Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry. I figured I may as well give my take on this ... stuff.

What Is It?

Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry is basically a thick fruit roll-up. Instead of being rolled up though, it is packaged in a smaller plastic seal, and is rectangular in shape.

When I first saw the snack, I thought about those fruit rolls that I used to eat when I was a kid. They were not the overly sugary fruit rolls, but instead they came with mini specks of actual fruit in them.

Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry looked similar to those old fashioned fruit rolls, so I was excited to rip open the package and give it a try.

Sweet Strawberry has no sugar, dyes, or artificial flavors. Very similar to the rolls I had when I was a kid. The main reason I loved old fashioned fruit rolls was that I could chew on the mini strawberry seeds. It added a cool texture that I always enjoyed.

I noticed more flavors next to Sweet Strawberry, so I grabbed them as well. I figured these snacks were going to be delicious, just the way I remember them being when I was a wee one.

Out of the package:

In the car I went straight for Sweet Strawberry first. I pried open the plastic seal, and peeled from the plastic my ... fruit leather.

I was not impressed with how thick the piece of fruit leather was. I was imagining something a little thinner inside the package. The fruit leather smelled awesome though. Real, and sweet like an actual strawberry.

I took a small bite. Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry is thick, and hard to chew. The taste was nothing like those yummy original rolls I had when I was a kid. In fact, the taste was pretty bland. I guess thats what to expect from all natural, and sugar free.

It was not terrible, but it also was not something I'd find myself reaching out for, to snack on time and time again.

Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry was hard to chew, the texture was tough, and the leather didn't dissolve much, so I found myself trying to swallow large bits of it. I find you are better of sucking on it then trying to chew on it.

Overall:

Not impressed. I didn't like the texture, the flavor was also sort of gross after chewing on it for awhile.
Although it's not a delicious snack, it is a healthy one, and most likely would make for a good snack for children. Make sure they never had a real sugary fruit roll-up though, because if you hand them this, after they have already had their taste buds on a real fruit roll-up, they are just going to spit it out.

Where To Find:

Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry and other flavors are sold in large packs of 30, or you can buy them individually for around $1.25. I recommend you try an individual wrapped snack before you take a dive and buy a large 30 count pack.

They are not for everyone. If you are used to sugar free all natural snacks, then you may find Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather Sweet Strawberry to be delicious. If not though, I'd avoid them.
