Movie Review: The Marsh

Whenever I get a glimpse of a good DVD cover at my local Blockbuster, I always flip the DVD over to take a look at what the plot has to offer. When I came across The Marsh, I was intrigued by the back slip description, so I checked it out.

The Marsh starts of by introducing us to our main character Claire. She writes story books and seems relatively normal...except for one thing. She has nightmares and visions of horrible things. These horrible things always seem to surround this large creepy looking farmhouse.

She tells her doctor about these re-occurring dreams and visions, and he recommends she take some time off. Get out of town for a while, relax... yadda yadda.

Claire finds herself taking a leave by going to the Rose Marsh Farmhouse...which oddly looks like the exact house that Claire's dreams and frightening visions are about.

It's no shocker that near immediately odd things start occurring. A young girls ghost shows herself to her, and a young man who seems to have this young girls spirit a prisoner haunts Claire throughout the movie.

The ghost story suddenly becomes a mystery, and the plot gets twisted into something more than just a ghost tale. It became a 'who done it' type flick.

This threw me off, and sort of annoyed me.

Claire; instead of just going home and leaving things alone, decides to take it upon herself to investigate why these ghosts are showing themselves to her. It appears that no one in town wants to give her an understanding of what had happened in that house years ago. This only gives her more of a reason to snoop around.

After digging deeper into old history of the town, and old occurrences that happened at the house, you find that Claire is the reason why the ghosts are making themselves known to her. Claire plays a part in the history of why they are haunting, and why they cannot rest. Sort of.

I can't really go on any more without spoiling the twist...but I will say this. The twist is something I have seen before, and The Marsh reminded me a lot of the flick I Know Who Killed Me, starring Lindsay Lohan.

Actors:

All of the actors and actress' played their parts well, and nothing was over done, or appeared fake and fraud. There is nothing I hate more than bad acting in films, and I must say The Marsh had some pretty good actors. Their characters were believable which was a major plus. I feel if bad acting were included in The Marsh, it would of been a deal breaker for me.

The plot was average... bad acting could of made it horrible.

Overall:

It was an okay flick. It's not one I would watch time and time again, but it is not terrible either. It's good for a Friday night with nothing better to do but kill an hour and a half around the tube.

Age Recommendation:

There is not any nudity in this film, but there are parts that display a rape scene involving a child (there is no nudity though, only a vision of kicking feet). Not cool for the youngins to be watching! Which is why I recommend no child watch this one. The ghosts are also done up quite well, and are pretty scary.
I'd give it 3 stars out of 5.
