Movie Review: Bratz

Okay, I will admit it. I'm 25 years old, and I am guilty of charged for purchasing at least one or two Bratz dolls a year. I find them to be absolutely adorable, and probably the best thing in the land of dolls since Barbie.

When I heard that Bratz were coming out with a movie using actual humans I was impressed, and also a bit skeptical. How the hell were they going to find girls with heads that big, and torsos that small?

I waited on the sidelines for the movie to release on DVD (because I refuse to go to theaters). When I finally did manage to obtain an up-close and personal look at the Bratz cover DVD, I sat there wondering which girl played which Brat.

I had a pretty good set idea of who was who, but once I popped the DVD into my player and the movie got to rolling, I was disappointed to see that they used a white girl to portray a very Spanish Yasmin. I know the actress has her Spanish roots, but she is white. Yasmin is a sun kissed color. The actress was pale.

Jade's character resembled the Jade doll slightly. But just not that Asian look that most Bratz fans recognize as Jade. Again, the actress has Chinese roots...but she looks like a white girl with black hair.

Now Sasha looked like Sasha. This was probably the only doll that was given justice, as the actress actually resembled a Bratz doll. The resemblance is so uncanny that it is a bit scary...yet perfect in that freaky beautiful way.

Chloe resembled Chloe only in the fact that the blond actress had slightly large pouty lips, like a real Bratz doll. Other than that though, she sort of looked like your typical blond teen.

On To The Movie:

It was extremely fast and scenes jumped from one scene to the next. 2 years go by in a matter of a breath, yet the actress' didn't age a bit! Only if life were that wonderful!

Anyhow, the movie starts off basically introducing you to each of the characters. You get to know who is who, (because it does get confusing at the very start). The girls are displayed as best friends forever, they are with one another 247, and if they are not together they are aiming or talking to one another through television phones.

As fast as you get into the obvious bond, the bond dissolves as the girls enter junior high. They each take on different cliches, and end up separating from one another. Chloe makes a bunch of soccer friends, Jade makes a bunch of designer/science nerd friend, Sasha makes a slew of cheerleader buds, and Yasmin...she sort of fits in nowhere. She basically roams around nerdy and friendless for 2 years.
That is when the girls come back together and make a promise to never let social cliques get in the way of their friendship.

Someone does try and stand in the way of their friendship though. An extremely jealous gal by the name of Meridith (a doll I think they should make). Anyhow Meridith for some odd reason hates them, because everyone else thinks they are cool. Meridith used to be the cool one, and all of that annoying cliche stuff.

Meridith who is school president, or class president is entering the school talent show, where the winner will receive a scholarship. The Bratz enter the contest to try and win the scholarship for Chloe who is portrayed as slightly less fortunate then the rest of the girls.

It is found that Yasmin is a great singer, and they want her to sing for the talent show.

The talent show goes on, and Meridith sings first...the Bratz are up next.. but before they sing, some stupid long speech that would not of ever been done in any real life situation was spoken first. By now you are bored out of your mind.

After the speech the Bratz sing, and ... they suck.

The lip syncing was awful. The song was awful, and of course there is the typical happy ending. I won't spoil it, but anyone with a brain can figure it out.

Overall:

Bratz, for me, sucked. It was lame, too fast paced, and there were too many boring and unbelievable scenes. The girls though did a great job acting, so I have to give them props there.

A younger little girl may find this one to be entertaining. When I say younger I mean 3 to 6. Anyone older will just grow bored, and quickly.
