Review of Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker

Like most ice cream lovers, my freezer is usually stocked with all sorts of different flavors, some boxes half full, some with nothing more than mere scraps at the bottom of the container, and other containers still full.

Like most though, I usually end up wasting a lot more than I actually intended to due to freezer burn or just lack of space.

When I came across the Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker, I figured it would be a useful tool as it does something extra special that a standard ice cream maker does not do.

First though, I wanted to get this one fact out there for anyone interested in this ice cream maker, and that is that the Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker does not technically 'make' ice cream.
The Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker uses regular ice cream that you have already purchased, and turns that hard ice cream into a soft serve near replica of what you would purchase at an ice cream shop like Carvel.

Besides transforming hard ice cream into soft serve ice cream, the ice cream maker does one more little extra nice thing as well. You can add candy, such as Butterfinger pieces, Reese's pieces, M&M's, or whatever else your heart desires. When placed into the machine, it will grind them up into a more fine and suitable texture for your soft serve ice cream.

Now everything sounds groovy right? A mini soft serve ice cream parlor that sits right on your counter, taking up very little space.

Sadly there are too many flaws with this particular machine for me to fully recommend it to you.

Cons:

The biggest flaw with the Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker, was discovered after taking it apart for clean up.

The machines inner body has a thick spiral shaped rod that rotates around while you push the ice cream into the funnel.

Unfortunately when you remove this piece from the machine, you will find that more ice cream stuck to this spiral shaped rod than you actually received in your bowl, or ice cream cone. I enjoyed a much larger treat by eating the ice cream off of this spiral shaped rod than anything else.

However if you are unaware of this issue, you could end up simply letting the ice cream melt, and wasting way more than was necessary.

Another small flaw with the machine is the level of noise it creates. I like waking up late at night sometimes for a nice bowl of ice cream while everyone else is sleeping. There is no way I could plug this machine in and use it to make soft serve ice cream, as it would wake up the entire house. Basically, it's loud, like a low powered push mower.

Overall:

Besides that one huge flaw, the Black & Decker Arctic Twister, Ice Cream Maker works pretty well. It does crunch up any candy pieces you add to it, and it does create perfect soft served ice cream; sadly though, most of the ice cream will be found stuck within the machine.
